CASCADA Thermal Springs + Hotel
📍 Gay-friendly spas in Portland
This gay-friendly spa offers a tranquil and clean environment, with a beautiful conservatory pool area bathed in natural daylight. The sanctuary provides a variety of options for a circuit experience, and the staff is attentive, ensuring hydration and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the courteous atmosphere and the overall relaxing ambiance, making it a wonderful experience for those seeking a day pass.
However, some visitors note that the pricing may not align with the amenities provided. The basement sanctuary, while moody, may not appeal to everyone, and the atrium area's temperature can be too cold for comfort. The lack of robes and bath products is also mentioned, suggesting room for improvement in the overall finishing touches.

I was underwhelmed for the price. I expected it to be higher end, nicer touches, and better run for a $100 3-hour pass. I tried to relax but was always reflecting in my mind- is this worth more than $.50 a minute? The facilities are nice. The basement sanctuary was sort of odd for me. It was moody but I also love sunlight and Portland already feels like a basement with no light 6 months out of the year. I don’t understand the appeal of no light? The atrium area was beautiful but kept entirely too cold both in air temp and pool temp to enjoy. No robes for use? No bath products like a scrub or an aromatherapy blend to enjoy post spa? I was just surprised at the lack of finish. This place is close and I see what they’re trying to do, but it’s charging high end prices and giving mid-range amenities at best. The overall effect is that you know you’re getting tricked into believing it’s really worth it and it’s like no one wants to say it as it’s the "fanciest" we have here in Portland.
Wonderful experience. Beautiful, tranquil, clean. The pool area in conservatory was open daylight vibe. Sanctuary had great options for circuit experience. We loved it. Guests were courteous. Staff were ever present to keep hydration and clean and clear areas. Glad we came for a day pass
This is a review for the thermal springs: it was disappointing. For $100 and what appears to be limited spots when booking online, I expected it to feel a bit exclusive and high end. We went on a Monday night for our anniversary and it was busy and distracting/nonrelaxing. Very strange vibe in here with several individuals apparently doing Instagram shoots...honestly, that I could ignore BUT the springs themselves left much to be desired. The "sanctuary" was packed with people, smelled of chlorine and the temperatures of the pools were all off. Felt more like a dirty, dimly lit basement. I liked the outside but again it was way too crowded to feel relaxing and the middle pool was the nicest but the temperature was off. What bothered me the most was the lack of cleanliness in the bathroom. When I arrived there was a musty smell and hair on the floor everywhere. I thought it would be better when I came back to shower but nope...it was in fact worse. Customer service was nice. So I guess do not expect it to be exclusive, romantic or high end and you will be fine. Guess I had higher expectations.
My partner and I had an absolutely luxurious time at this Spa Hotel! The staff is kind and helpful and the thermal springs were transcendent. Our room wag gorgeous, it had huge windows and view of Mt Hood - and the bed was super comfy. Coffee shop downstairs in the morning stocks delicious food and also has great coffee! There’s also a gallery attached to the hotel you can stroll through with beautiful work. Also the location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the arts district. 11/10 - hope to return soon! Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
An incredible relaxing and peaceful stay! The facility is incredible. The neighborhood fun with great food and drinks. So quiet and we enjoyed the workout facilities as well as every pool! The massages were excellent (Michelle was our Masseuse). We are definitely coming back!
Decided last minute to try to go to the thermal springs for my birthday at Cascada. They only had 1 time spot available online, but Sara at the front desk was so nice and helpful and she offered to get my friend in with me because it was my birthday. They also gave us free robes to use. We had the most relaxing time! It’s beautiful, light, clean, and didn’t feel too crowded even though they were sold out for the day. I will definitely be going back. Afterwards we swung by Terra Mae for a quick celebratory drink. Cocktails were fantastic as always. Thank you Sara! You’re the best! You made me feel so special on my bday. 🥰
I spent my birthday weekend at Cascada and it was absolutely wonderful from the moment I arrived. When I checked in, they had left the sweetest surprise in my room — a birthday banner and a little birthday package waiting for me. It was such a thoughtful touch and immediately made the whole stay feel special. Someone asked me afterward if Cascada felt super bougie or intimidating, and honestly my answer is no — in the best way. I definitely felt spoiled and surrounded by beauty and luxury, but it never felt pretentious. I didn’t feel like you had to have a Pilates body or pull up in a Range Rover to belong there. It felt warm, welcoming, and very Portland — relaxed luxury. The tiered seating area when you walk in creates this great social space where people are lounging, chatting, and enjoying coffee together. Then the Sanctuary area is just incredible — floating among the plants, soaking in the mineral springs, and relaxing in the saunas downstairs is pure peace. My friend and I especially loved the heated chairs in the mineral springs area — they were heavenly after soaking. The only small suggestion I’d make is adding a couple of those near the pool area since it can get a little chilly there. I’m already planning to come back this summer. The outdoor space looks like it will be amazing for gathering in the sunshine before wandering back inside to enjoy the sanctuary again. Cascada really strikes the perfect balance between feeling pampered and completely comfortable.
