Barbarella Austin

Tuesday nights — aka TuesGays — are undefeated, and Barbarella is where they peak. Karaoke chaos, elite people-watching, and just enough mess to keep things interesting. Cupcake runs the night with pure charisma, light menace, and impeccable timing. The outfits are experimental, the confidence is questionable (but never Cupcake), and somehow everyone ends up having a great time. There’s something for everyone — or more accurately, someone. Come curious. Leave hoarse.

1/2026 Downtown Austin vibing nightspot with "big" indoor dance floor with high powered sound system. Will be packed by midnight, playing a slice of your favorite dance tunes. The DJ usually takes request so make it yours. The main bar will be busy with long lines all night. There are a couple of other bars further in where you can usually get faster service, including the back outdoor bar serving a large open space which can host live music. Be prepared for downtown Austin bar pricing. The cover may only be $6, but the drinks are sky high. Drinks for two for a few hours can easily snatch a full Benjamin.

I was just denied entry with my entire group of friends because I "stumbled" and I was then accused of being drunk and that I had too much to drink. Note: I don't drink and I was with my friends and told the boy that said "sorry I need to keep my job" and its policy to deny my entree due to me "stumbling"? LOL - again guys? I don't drink. This place is wild letting kids run metal detectors at the front door.

Truly the best dive club in Austin. Depending on the day of the week, they offer a night of music for any type of music buff. For me, Y2K night on Thursday is the moment. Can dance there all NIGHT!

It's been a few years since I've visited Barbarella. We stopped by on Friday, Sept. 19th for some 80s jams. Good selection of music however, the DJ is about as friendly as a porcupine. He has no personality and lacks people skills. Poor fella needs to cheer up. Don't ruin our Gen X jams with a pretentious DJ! Oh, and some tall bartender never bothered serving me. I told the other bartender and she apologized for the experience and bought me a shot to show her sincerity. She noticed he was by- passing me when he had no one else to serve.

The owner insisting that a 4 on the floor law exists and that by taking my service dog into his establishment would be breaking the law because she is in a sling. Small service dogs are a thing and totally legal. Didn’t bother to ask me the two questions he is allowed to ask, just kept repeating a law that doesn’t exist. This is actual discrimination. My service dog has traveled through four states, Disney world, conferences, sporting events and so much more. Including many other bars and food and drink serving establishments, in her sling and I’ve never been treated with such disrespect.

Love this club, it’s always a blast. Drinks are fairly cheap. Service is quick, reliable and kind. If you’re new to austin or just want to try a new club they have a back patio dance floor that’s super dope
