I have been following Refugee and have been anxiously waiting to check out the sound system since the summer. My partner and I attended Victor Calderone’s infamous NYD party. The sound was excellent and did meet the expectations of Stereo in Montreal. However, it was apparent that the venue was not prepared for a big event which was extremely disappointing - ticket holders waiting on line in the freezing cold as long as 2 hours, bars were understocked and at times, no staff at all and lastly, the ladies bathroom were absolutely horrendous; all stalls were filled to the rim with urine and feces, no toilet paper and no running water. With such an incredible sound system, it is my hope that management will address these issues as soon as possible so we can keep this possible great addition in Brooklyn for music lovers.

Came here on a Sunday night to watch DJ David Morales. This place is located in an industrial area in Brooklyn.. a relatively new facility with a spring board floor so it’s easy on your knees, ankles, hips, and back. The sound system is top notch.. the experience here is perfect for dancing and listening to music. They use portable restrooms and the water for the sink was not running, and there was no soap available. The staff at the coach Check was very nice. The bartenders were OK and the security staff was pretty nice. Reasonable priced. Card payments are accepted. Give this place a try.. Make sure you eat somewhere else before you go here. We will definitely be going back.

Great design and flow - get in, put your stuff in a locker, immediately on the dance floor. The interior, the music, the sound system - AMAZING. Went on a Friday and not toooooo stuffed, just the right amount of space. Great and polite other attendees. the bathroom line is long because it's the cleanest club bathroom I've EVER seen, even at 3:30am. Super safe. My friend lost their phone and it was shockingly returned to the bar, WILD. And the bar was a good experience too. Kind & efficient staff all around. 10/10 one of my new fav spots. 🪩

Came here last night for the first time to catch DJ Seinfeld + Heidy P and Cudmore. Invited several friends who all chose not to join me so I just said fuhgeddaboudit I'll turn up on my own. I'm pretty much past the years of clubbing, but Carpe diem. So it's off the cut in this seedy filthy warehouse sector of East Williamsburg. The Indoor Venue space is extended by an expansive tent situation. I personally didn't find staff pretentious or unaccomodating at all. Music: All three dropped sick funky beats from the jump but when Seinfeld hit, it was like an awakening. Some of the absolutely nastiest drops you'll ever hear were dropped last night. Dance floor was full but just right, some shoulder bumping goes on but definitely enough room to groove-- and if you come here, do understand there's just no resisting this utterly infectious sound system. It will consume you. On top of that, the people are chill and drama free-- easy to make friends for the night-- and they have free water AND hot apple cider! This is that spot!

I had been here before and had a great time, so I decided to make another visit in the middle of the night coming from an event nearby that I had grown a little bored of. After looking around on RA, it showed tickets for an event that was $25, and the cheapest option within a short walking distance. When I got there, it was $45 each at the door. Why would the door cost be so outrageous when the event was NOT sold out and tickets were still available online? Had I known this, I would have simply purchased the tickets in advance before making my way through the security. The rest of the night was enjoyable, but spending an extra $40 at the door for no reason is ridiculous.

I’ve been here twice, both on a Sunday which may explain why my experience hasn’t mirrored some of the other reviews here. Both nights were bitterly cold and the staff worked quickly and politely to get us in the club quickly. The sound system is incredibly impressive; it is so powerful and so pure , you can feel the music in your body but you don’t leave with ringing ears at the end of the night. Also huge props that they have free water , it shows a real care and respect for their partygoers and I appreciate that.

Refuge has lived up to my expectations, even having traveled from 3,000 miles away! The sound is the best I've heard since Twilo and the crowd was diverse and really friendly. The club's owners make upgrades to the space, the setup, the bathrooms, the lights, and even the already amazing sound system, every week. They could be like other owners and just pocket all the money they're making, but they put it back into the venue literally every week. It's already very different (improved) from when I was there last and I can't wait to see it again. They listen to their clients' feedback and make changes accordingly. No venue is perfect out of the gate, but Refuge actually does something about the parts that they (and we) want to see improved. They are very community focused in that way and that's what I want from a venue. This is how we ALL help build a place we can call home. Thank you Refuge!
