Customer Reviews
Orchid Theatre has a rating of 3.9 out of 5 based on over 525 reviews on Google
I came here recently and was honestly shocked by the pricing and policies. I ordered a double vodka cranberry and a water and my total was $24, which already felt steep. But what really upset me was what happened after. When I went back up to the bar to get water, they handed me a Member’s Mark bottled water and told me it was $3. I asked if I could just get tap water instead and was told no; that I had to purchase a bottled water. Refusing to provide free tap water to customers who are actively drinking alcohol feels irresponsible and greedy. It’s standard practice at most bars to offer tap water, especially for safety reasons. Charging for bottled water is one thing — denying tap water entirely is another. It left a bad taste in my mouth and honestly feels like poor business practice. I won’t be returning.
My friends and I went for NYE and one of the female bartenders tried to scam us out of money. We ordered three drinks and three $6 shot specials and my bill was somehow $78.28. I paid it but couldn’t believe it so I asked for an itemized receipt. Things weren’t adding up so I said, "we ordered the shots special how is it this much?" She told us she thought we ordered something else and asked if we wanted the charges reversed because it would take my bank around 24 hours to get my money back. Of course I do, she reversed it and gave us a new bill that was still too high. She said, "oh I made four shots right?" As they’re sitting in front of her… No we ordered three and she adjusted it again and my bill went from $78.28, to around $57, to $47.38. I am glad I was aware of this but I can’t imagine how many other people she messed with and got away with it, not just on NYE but any day. Besides that they let the place get way too overly crowded and the crowd was just rude. The DJ was also disappointing. We went last year for NYE and had a better experience, but still way too packed. We won’t be back.
I have gone to Orchid a few times now and the place is a great venue for dance / electronic events. Went for the Parasol events. The staff is great. Kendahl (bartender) was amazing! She is attentive, fast, personable, and makes good drinks. We always have a good time there when we go.
Security Gaurd at the door was very unprofesional. My friends and I paid $10 to get into the club. We have been there for 3 hours already and wanted to catch some fresh air. The back patio was closed and there was sign that said we could go out front. Before leaving we asked the guard if we could leave to get some fresh air and come right back in, and he replied yes you guys are good. We enjoyed some fresh air and tried to walk back in. He yelled at us and said we needed to go to the back of the line which at that point was very long. We didnt understand why we had to wait outside in the cold again after we already paid and even had wristbands to prove that we did so. Will not be back here as long as that security gaurd works there.
Fire music. Been here several times. Love the Dj’s they pick. Definitely cut their liquor. Won’t buy drinks ever again but will definitely come back for the music and vibe. Terrible bc their drinks already aren’t cheap. Averaging 12 for well is the highest I have paid for such but it could just be me bc I lived in the south for a long time. But that’s extra disappointing knowing the economy we’re in and people just need a moment away to escape. Point of view… I’m in the club right now. Has 3 drinks before I came plus had four shots and a beer since I have been here!
Disclaimer: Your bill would be less crazy if you pre-gamed, but girl I’m not complaining, the night was bomb. My friends and I went for the Magan & Dayna’s Detroit Homecoming event, and we had an amazing time. The crowd was >mostly sapphics/lesbian, and even as a group of transmascs we felt totally comfortable. The vibe was safe, bathrooms inclusive, and energy immaculate. I want to shout out Kendall, the best bartender. She introduced herself right away, good service move, was super friendly, and kept that same energy every time I came back. We definitely spent money that night ($$$), and honestly she deserved a bigger tip. If you go, look for Kendall — she’s the one you want. Later in the night, one of our friends got sick in the bathroom. Not ideal, but the staff handled it better than to be expected. Amanda from security checked on us was patience and kind, didn’t embarrass anyone, and was just honest and respectful. Kendall even came outside to check on us and make sure we were okay, and Troy was also out there being very supportive. They made sure we were safe, grounded, and ready to head out once our Uber situation was figured out. All of them were understanding and didn’t give us the vibe that we were a problem, even though the situation could’ve easily gone that way. Overall: great night, great staff, great energy. Would 100% return. Ticket: $20 Drinks: ~$$
I’ve been coming to this bar for ten years, and it’s become so much more than just a place to grab a drink—it’s a place that truly feels like home. From day one, I was welcomed with open arms by Kendahl and everyone and that sense of acceptance has never faded. Whether you’re a regular or walking in for the first time, you’re treated like family. Especially after the amazing rebrand with Troy and Lauren. The atmosphere is comfortable, the people are genuine, and there’s this unspoken understanding that everyone belongs here. It’s a place for all—where good conversations happen, friendships grow, and memories are made without even trying. After a decade of visits, I can honestly say there’s nowhere else quite like it.
