I was really hoping for the best with word of a new owner. I went to school in OKC and remember cruising in the parking lot. Years later when I was living a short time in Wichita, we’d come down to the Habana on holiday weekends and had a blast. (Being drunk for lost the weekend helped overlook the disrepair the hotel was suffering from.) So when I had an opportunity to come to OKC as a rest stop on a cross country trip, I jumped on it. When I saw the prices they were charging for the suites, I didn’t mind because I had heard of a major renovation a couple of years ago by new owners. Unfortunately my understanding of "major renovation" is quite different than the owners. Yes, some new paint helps, and new vinyl flooring is more answering a health concern than aesthetically pleasing (the carpet had to be a health risk from age and lord knows what has been spilled on it over the years). But the decrepit building needs much more work to be a viable contender for hotel guests’ dollars. I want to support the lgbt community, but it seems these new owners have only invested enough to get the good sentiment of its clientele, and are just milking as much as they can off the community it says it serves. I’ve stayed in some dingy motels before, but this one, even with the renovation done, is up there with the worst of them. It’s pretty dirty. The bathrooms are gross (it looks like they just through up some new wall liners in the showers, bc you can still smell the mold and mildew emanating from behind them. The suite still has the crappy verticals blinds it had 20 years ago, with slats still falling off. In fact my room had a couple of them stashed away behind a stand up mirror placed in the corner of the room. And some things haven’t changed at all. Still surly front desk staff (I asked for a receipt for a cash purchase I made at the front desk for some toiletry items only to be told "No." That was all, no explanation, just no, you can’t. To me that says someone is mopping off the top of the cash sales. Overall the place needs to be demolished. But the people that come here make it bearable. Nice folk, blue collar, country music loving sweet hearts. They are the reason I’d likely throw my money down the drain and stay here again. It’s the clientele that makes this place.
On my last visit to this place in 2/2023 I knew that if they didn’t start renewing the place I wouldn’t be back, and it was going to die. So, 2 ½ years later I thought I give them another try with a very skeptical eye. OYO hotels doesn’t impress me anywhere, but they did buy this place in wrecked condition, and it does look like they are very slowly going to bring it back. It’s in mediocre condition, but far better than what I saw on the last visit.||||They put us in a room that had been recently remdeled, and it was nice. The mixing valve in the bathtub needs to go in the trash and be replaced. It was very difficult to get the shower to come on, and the temperature of their hot water is dangerously high. The furniture and fixtures in the room were in good condition, and the appearance of the sleeping room was good.||||As anyone should expect from this place they are not selling accommodations but rather selling a party. If you think you’re coming here for a good night’s sleep, think again. However, it’s lots more appealing with the night clubs contained therein operating rather than vast empty spaces which were all that was left on my last visit. The restaurant is still closed, and likely should be because food and beverage kills hotels, and this one needs all the $ it can generate.||||It has always bothered me that the light switches to the toilet/tub area are almost in the shower. I would not think today’s building codes would allow such things, but I don’t know. The bath heater lamp had no knob or bulb I it. Quite a few of the roof vents are mounted at an angle looking like a tornado may have re-shaped them after installation.||||The East pool is closed and empty, but obviously being renovated. The west pool was operating and looked good. If this were my property I would delete one of the two pools as it just doesn’t bring much value but had all the costs of a swimming pool.||||The desk staff was courteous, professional, and helpful in check in/check out, and other services. I gave up alcohol > 20 years ago thus I didn’t buy anything in the night clubs. They still have a lot of broken plate glass windows that need to be repaired.||||There is a ton of work still to do here, but they are going in the upward direction rather than downward. I commend them on what they have gotten done, and hope they will continue to bring the place up to some basic standards, which it hasn’t been.
Stayed in a suite for $175.00 They give you a wi-fi password that doesn’t work. All the cables in the front room were disconnected from the TV. Then the club directly downstairs was so loud it actually vibrated the walls and floor. Was very satisfied with the suite itself. Just couldn’t put up with the noise. Ended up leaving.
I'll preface this review by saying I knew what kind of place this was when I booked my stay, however the rooms (yes, as in multiple) given to me were really bad. The first room was dirty, with hair in the tub, sticky carpet, no hot water and a door that wouldn't lock. Second room also had no hot water and a shower with no shower head, just a pipe sticking out of the wall. Third room (and my final strike for this place) had a busted TV, taped up window and a bathtub with no stopper and the shower head dangling. I took all this as a sign that maybe I just wasn't meant to stay here. The person at the front desk could not have been any nicer and really did try - they just didn't have much to work with. It's ridiculous that this place costs $160 a night with barely anything to offer other than being a focal point in the 39th Street District. If you're like me and value cleanliness and amenities over location, don't even bother.
The District Hotel is the funnest place to hang out in the Midwest. Great Bars. Great Atmosphere Several restaurants near by. Easy access off the Hwy. The rooms are newly renovated and the pools are clean well taken care of. The ownership is really nice and friendly. The staff is absolutely amazing. It is a great place to hang out and have fun.
Rooms/hotel is need desperate need of a major remodel not only is it old and dated from the 1960s 1970s they are literally falling apart and there was dead bugs all over the room. I was going to stay this whole weekend but the rooms are not fit for habitation there wasn't any hot water when i went to shower i told the front deck and checked out of the hotel the front desk person didn't seem that concerned or offer anything for the inconvenience but did apologize. I dont see how the property hasn't been condemned by the city the rooms are insuch dis-repair the owner must not care about the hotel rooms and spending all the money on the nightlife the rooms are not worth paying more than 25 bucks a night definitely not worth the 140 per night they are charging i would not recommend staying here maybe vist the club if thats your thing but definitely stay at a better hotel for that price what a dump.
The center piece of The District area with bars and 'gift shop' and a long history in the OKC community! They host events regulary and walking distance from a festive night life
