Hotel UMass

I hesitated a bit after reading some of the reviews here, but our experience was great. Booked online, easy and friendly check-in process. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable and had everything we needed. We had no issues adjusting the thermostat or keeping warm; I believe it even helpfully displayed relative humidity. ||We arrived late at night and were pleasantly surprised that coffee, tea and snacks were available in the lobby 24/7. A lot of fancier hotels limit this to some arbitrary hours of the day, which can be frustrating when you’ve been traveling for hours and just want a little something without having to leave the hotel. ||We were there for our child to tour the campus and the central location was perfect. Easy in and out of the garage too — it’s based on license plate readers, so no tickets or barriers. ||The hotel ambiance isn’t fancy but the lobby was actually pretty cozy on a cool fall morning and the breakfast was tasty. We thought we got a great deal for what we paid and it’s so cool to see hospitality students working in a real-world setting. They made us feel at home.

Positive: Morning coffee and fruit. Convenience to campus. They comped my parking fee bc it failed to get recorded. Negative: The room lacked USB ports, staff surprised to learn about it. sink faucet wiggled, some lights took a long time to warm up (older CFL; not LEDs). The cover to the plug-ins on the desk wouldn't open.

I booked two king rooms and called ahead to request adjoining rooms. The hotel told me there were no adjoining kings and that one room would have to be downgraded to a queen. They explicitly advised me to request a refund for the price difference from the booking company after my stay. I did exactly that - and the hotel then rejected the refund request. I paid for two king rooms, received one king and one queen, and the hotel refused to refund the difference.

This was the absolute worst experience I've had at any motel or hotel I have stayed at. The heating system was so dry that I couldnt sleep well. My lips, face and hands were so dry that I woke up after an hour or two and needed water. In addition, the tv remote responded very poorly and despite two attempts to make coffee I had to abandon that as the lights on the coffee maker ie:, "insert cup", "brewing" never lit up to tell you it was working or what step it was in. It delivered a cold very light brown water with coffee grinds in it.. I checked out at 430AM in the morning although I didnt have to check out until 11. The whole experience was one big struggle. The manager called after 5 pm after I was told he would call when he got in after 7 AM. Wow. I was just totally dumbfounded and very disappointed by the whole experience.

Everything was perfect. Close to Amherst College campus and multiple bus stops. Rooms were spacious and clean, and had great views, every two days had great room service. Breakfast was mid but still the room is a good package within affordable price. Definitely disagree with other reviews about rooms looking like hostel. But don’t know about the other issues people mentioned.

Positive: It was an excellent value. It had food options that are unique to any 2.5 star hotel as this one. Negative: Finding the hotel was the only problem. It is poorly marked. There is nowhere to drive up and check in. Parking is a rather long walk.

Lovely hotel. Inexpensive option in the summer in Amherst. Healthy options for breakfast. Great little shop for snacks on the garage level. Clean comfortable rooms. Parking is cheap. Not noisy. Parking garage takes time to get used to going around and around to get to the hotel.
