El Primero Hotel

I had a wonderful stay at this centrally located, family-run hotel just steps from the convention center. After a very difficult travel experience — including a 24-hour flight delay and luggage that never made it in time for my conference — I arrived close to midnight exhausted and stressed. The owner was incredibly kind and understanding from the moment I walked in. She went far above and beyond what anyone would expect: she kindly offered clothes for me to borrow so I could attend my meetings the next day and provided extra toiletries since my suitcase hadn’t arrived. After nearly 72 hours of travel, her warmth and generosity made all the difference and turned what could have been a very stressful stay into a genuinely comforting one. The hotel itself is in an excellent, central location and perfect for anyone attending events at the convention center. More importantly, the level of care and hospitality here is exceptional. You can truly feel that it’s a family-run place where guests are looked after with heart. I’m deeply grateful for the kindness shown during a very challenging travel moment and would absolutely stay here again.

Unique hotel and experience in Chula Vista neighborhood. El Primero hotel is an art deco adobe style 20 room hotel. The hotel is walking distance of good restaurants, coffee houses, bars, boutiques, salons, jewelry stores, gym. I took a tour of "The Gym" on a Friday night with 100 people exercising, busiest place on the strip. I went to farmers market next day off of strip/park with interesting plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables, books, granola, food stands, etc. I had fish taco and shrimp taco there, delicious. I watched Bears/Rams game at bar on strip and meet good/fun people and food. Enjoyable experience in Chula Vista neighborhood and hotel.

This hotel has a lot of old world class and style, something that is becoming increaingsly rare these days. It's located right in downtown Chula Vista, within walking distance to anything on 3rd, practially across the street from La Bella's Pizza.||The owners are a very nice family. They have a lot of old pictures of San Diego decorating the walls, including one that will remind you of The Shining. The rooms are elegant and efficient, the parking is free and never crowded. And the price is incredibly reasonable, never more than $150 a night, even on weekends.||If you want a taste of old San Diego on a budget, this is your hotel!

Positive: Location is walking distance to many restaurants and coffee shops. Negative: Staff is nice but so annoying. She constantly interrupted us when we were tying to relax coming over talking nonstop. She is so rude. Wouldn?t take any hints about leaving us alone to visit in the courtyard or lobby with our family members.

Loved the cleanliness of the room as well as it's very quiet. Ample parking. Very walkable area. The innkeepers were very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this boutique hotel if you want something cozy, clean and quiet. I will definitely stay here again.

I had such a good time at El Primero Hotel! Katie and Charlie were so kind, and you can really feel that they appreciate all of their guests. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Mission room and although it is smaller compared to corporate hotels, we did not feel cramped. Beds are pretty firm, which I like, individual AC’s in each room, plenty of places to charge devices, and TV’s. The hotel is in a great location close to many restaurants, coffee shops and some cute boutiques. The hotel was booked completely when we stayed, but there weren’t any issues with noise. What this hotel lacks in "fancy" amenities, it makes up for in charm and the homey feel. We will definitely be back to stay next time we are in the area!

Loved my stay here! For such an affordable spot right in downtown San Diego, this hotel really exceeded my expectations. The room was clean and comfy, and the location made it super easy to get around the city. What really made the difference, though, was the service. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and you can tell the owner really cares about the guests. It’s rare to find that kind of personal touch these days, and it honestly made my trip so much better. Big thanks to the owner and the whole team for going above and beyond — I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in San Diego!
