This is an unkept secret in Detroit. The place is like a bed and breakfast. It is updated yet still has the old Victorian charm. Amanda was an amazing host. The breakfast and area was perfect. We booked this place to make it easier to park and walk to the Brandon Lake concert and it was perfect!!! It exceeded our expectations and we will be spreading the word and come again with our family.
We went for my husband's birthday and two tigers games. The proximity to the stadium was a 10! 5min walk! The other direction 5 min to pizza and beer! The hotel itself is an antique gem some of the furnishings need a touch of TLC and recovering. The owner needs to convey to the guests and they need understand the historic society is strict when it comes to upgrades. Ownership investing in superior linen and robes is in their best interest. The floors are over 100 years old they need some attention. We were in room 21 large room lovely view. Attention to details you can control functioning lightbulbs and new blinds would be helpful along with a very deep cleaning quarterly. Also hot breakfast and cocktail hour around the game time would be a plus overall it was a nice stay. Not the Ritz but I've stayed in a ton of antique boutique hotels around the world. Just a bit more TLC!
Stayed here recently with my husband for a game and it was perfect! We were able to park in their lot. They do seem to pack the lot during game days but thankfully we were able to just ask the parking attendant to move the car blocking us in after the game and they moved them to allow us out and even reassured me that we would have a spot available when we returned. The room was gorgeous and very clean, we stayed in room 32 with the cute upstairs seating area. The staff was all kind and friendly, only complaint was the temperature in the room but with it being an older property something had to give. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a place to stay for a game or concert!!!!
The hotel was beautiful. My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay. We were in town for a concert at the little Caesar arena and this hotel was in a prime location. I will definitely be going back.
The location, service and overall experience is what gets stars, the lack of cleanliness and having to pay (daily) for parking is the reason for lack of stars. Parking is $28.99 daily, with no notice of this requirement until you arrive, and no voucher or discount given by the Inn. Apparently they "don't own the lot", though it's literally attached to it. They had no other suggestions for parking either. They do not clean the rooms. "Cleaning" is putting out fresh toiletries, towels and changing the sheets. There was hair everywhere in the bathroom, dust EVERYWHERE in the room, the carpet & shower floor is gross (bring flip flops or shower shoes) and there were items left behind from others under the bed & side tables. The bed is very loud & creaky, but not necessarily uncomfortable. That being said, the kitchen and downstairs areas appear to get cleaned properly. The layout of the house, the artifacts & general history of the home is a cool experience. Feels like staying in a museum. The individuals providing service were friendly.
This was our third time staying here, we picked the same room all three times. Beautiful old home with lots of character, the staff is super friendly and hospitable, it's location is super close to the venues. We will stay again.
The Inn at 97 Winder is nice BUT there are some very odd things going on here. They don’t own the lot? That seems like a lie as the lot attendant was inside enjoying lunch when I showed up. To me it seems like this is a way for them to earn extra income… just include it in your price. Keeping parking in mind, they pack the lot full so when you pay that $28 + $0.99 "convenience fee" you can’t move your car, you’re held hostage. The Inn itself was alright, they have very nice appliances (nothing in the rooms as far as appliances go). Do NOT use their super fancy stove, that’s only for the parking lot attendant. The room was absolutely freezing when we woke up, the shower was missing tiles, etc… I started taking pictures and videos as soon as I walked in as I didn’t want them to charge me for damages that have absolutely been a thing well before my visit. Besides being cold and parking being an absolute joke, because again, "they don’t own the lot", Danielle was extremely helpful and sweet. If I do visit again it’s purely to see her and get some more cookies.
