This is what I call 5 stars. The room was big and clean, and also the balcony had a really good view of the mountains. There are also 3 entrances to the balcony; 1 in a bedroom, 1 in another bedroom, and 1 in the living room. The hotel is kind of away from other places, but there are so many good places to explore at least 20 minutes away. Also, the pool area was great. It is the winter and I was still able to do laps in the lap pool comfortably. I also really like the safety precautions the hotel takes to protect the guests. They have security guards, and you can only drive to your hotel room if you show your parking pass. I highly recommend this place, and hopefully I will come back again sometime.
Room needs attention. More than one non working outlet in the bedroom. Both televisions remotes were difficult to use. Couldn’t turn on tv or change channels. Outside our front door the drain was constantly making noise and took maintenance crews over 24 to get it figured out. Not worth the money to stay here. Very disappointed. Won’t be coming back anytime soon.
5 stars across the board. We loved it so much. The location was great, the weather pretty perfect for winter time, and the amenities incredible. The only suggestion I have is to add more dinning options, and have some late night activies or a last night bar open for family members that may want to enjoy the resort later into the evening. Perhaps a weekend late night glow pool activities from 9pm-12am, or a black light arcade night from 9pm-12am, or glow golf a night course. Things like that would be a lovely addition to the resort.
I had an incredible experience with a Welk employee named Milla. She said she was fairly new to the role, but she was extremely helpful to my family and I and made us feel very welcome and well above and beyond to make sure our needs were taken care of. In addition, the rooms were perfect for our family and we actually own a home locally but recently moved and so we come into town every quarter and we definitely will be making the Well regular part of our trips to San Diego!!
If you’re looking for a staycation spot in North County San Diego that actually delivers year after year, Welk Resort in Escondido is one of those rare places that never disappoints. I’ve been coming here for years — birthdays, holidays, family getaways — and it’s become one of our go-to retreat spots when we want to relax without the stress of long travel.😎 The Boulder Villas and Mountain Villas are my personal favorites, especially if you can snag a golf course view — peaceful mornings, wide open greens, and that true resort feel. The koi and fish ponds are another hidden gem around the property — quiet, scenic, and perfect if you want a slower pace and a great view.😉♥️ What really makes this place stand out is how much is packed into one resort: solid on-site dining, pizza and casual bites, a convenient market, a theater, and even a weekday farmers market vibe. You can easily park your car and not need to leave the property. ♥️😎 Bottom line: whether it’s a weekend escape or a celebration trip, this place consistently turns simple stays into great memories. Definitely worth checking out.
The resort itself has lot of green grasses and picnic areas plus all the pools and splash parks for kids. This place is more suitable for late spring, early summer as that's when it has the best weather for the water activities as its pools and splashpark is kinda chilly for Jan/Feb (even though some main pools are heated, it's still cold). The room feels a bit dated, and the shower has really lower water pressure, thus take a shower can be very annoying. Also, there's no supercharging station nearby closest is about 7 miles away). I wish the resort gives us some free level 2 charging stalls as EV is a popular vehicle for Californian now.
I used Hyatt Points to book a Small One Bedroom Villa at Villas on the Greens for 5 nights for my family, we stayed in room 1252 (Kings Mill Building). It was nice to have a full kitchen and separate bedroom. The resort location is beautiful and 15-20 minutes away from most restaurants and grocery stores. Most of the facilities/amenities are good but they are outdated, lots of noticeable rust and bandaid fixes everywhere. Our room had a toilet that leaked onto the floor whenever you flushed it. The carpet and furniture were old/dirty and the sliding door was barely functioning. There was zero cell service or wifi if you were in the bedroom, we had to go out to the front room to get service or wifi. We made due with the issues above but the final night of our stay at 10pm, the bedroom door mechanism broke with us inside the bedroom with our toddler and our daughter asleep on the couch in the front room. We were literally locked in the bedroom and it wouldn’t open from the inside or outside. The phone in our room of course didn’t work to call the front desk so I used the fire escape through the window and up the ladder to get out of the room so I could make a call and get help. It took awhile and a couple of workers to finally get the door opened, I’ve tried to contact the hotel to discuss the situation but the managers have been unresponsive. One other item, this is how our room was described on the Hyatt website when booking: "Step inside this 585-square-foot suite and enjoy golf course views from your private balcony—plus a separate living area with a queen sleeper sofa, a primary bedroom with a king bed, and a kitchenette." In reality, we entered our room by going down stairs like we were entering a basement apartment so our bedroom window looked at a retaining wall and the "balcony" was a walk out sliding glass door into a parking lot of cars, you can't see the golf course, just a parking lot, road, and another building. See map in photos for reference. For now, I do not recommend staying here until the resort is fully remodeled and if you do, make sure get an upper floor room in a building that has the views that are promised.
