Positive: The location is the best IMO. The hotel has great ambience as an older hotel from the 1950s or so. Negative: The Banyon city view rooms were not up to expectations. Too small for the cost and the walls let too much noise from the adjoining rooms through. We upgraded to ocean view rooms that were somewhat larger and we could see the beach from the balcony.

We stayed here for two nights and I truly love the historic feeling of the main building and also the ocean view room. The location is epic, walking distance to everything. The hotel offers various kinds of activities which included in the resort fees. We did morning yoga and flower lei making session. The teachers are very nice and funny. The room is nice but a little bit small. The pool is also a bit small but you have the access to Waikiki beach so it does not matter that much. The breakfast is also nice. Overall, highly recommend!!!!

The hotel itself was very nice, and the downtown location is hard to beat. However, we booked an oceanfront room expecting a peaceful setting, and instead spent much of the day listening to yellow catamaran tour boats honking at swimmers and surfers and repeatedly revving their engines. While you don’t hear road traffic from the ocean side, the constant boat noise made it feel more like downtown New York with taxis rather than a relaxing beachfront setting. I would also advise caution when swimming in this area, as these same boats frequently cruise very close to shore, honking at anyone in their path instead of slowing down. Unfortunately, because of the persistent boat noise and activity, we would not choose to stay here again, despite the hotel itself being nice.

Amazing hotel, great staff and perfect location. From arrival getting assistance from Stuart and the awesome staff that checked us in to when we sadly had to leave this was an experience we will never forget. Our housekeeper, Meralita made sure we had water everyday and our room was always perfect. The fresh flower leis at arrival were amazing and the buffet breakfast was so fresh with a wide selection of hot, cold, and local fruit options. Access directly to the beach and across from the international markets allowed us to enjoy so much with very little effort. The Bar live music each afternoon was an added plus. We cannot wait to go back! Thank you for the amazing experience, Mahalo!

This historic hotel is one of the best. It offers a perfect beachfront location close to shopping and dining. The amenities, food, and helpful staff are excellent. We love the traditional Hawaiian vibe, where you can easily spend your whole day relaxing on the beach, eating, and enjoying the Beach Bar.

This hotel was probably one of the best properties I have stayed at. I’ve stayed at May high end hotels and this hotel is one for the books. From the moment we walked in we were treated with such care. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. We had the most beautiful ocean front king suite with impeccable views. Please do not listen to the other reviews of "loud boats and surfers" it’s so minimal that you will never hear it unless your patio doors are open plus if you’re staying ocean front there’s going to be some noise.. That being said we had absolutely zero noise concerns/issues it was perfect. We were here for 5 nights and were celebrating a milestone in our relationship. Hotel manger Haley went above and beyond with helping me setup the room for a little surprise. Her hospitality was 10/10. We ran into each other a couple times later on in the week and she was great to converse with and shared a lot with us. I had inquired about the presidential suites and she went out of her way to give me a tour of those suites. Location of this hotel is perfect. It’s in the heart of all the shopping centres/attractions. Multiple nearby bus stops for you to travel the island and backs onto the ocean so you can leave your room and walk right to the beach area. Over all Haley and the entire staff at the Moana surfrider are absolutely stellar and made us feel like family. We are already planning our next trip to Hawaii and this is the only place we will be staying at.

Historic Waikīkī hotel on the beach and adjacent to Waikiki shops and restaurants. There are separate buildings (wings) each with distinctive architecture. The hotel has recently renovated guest rooms in all three wings. The original historic Moana / Banyan wing has lobby, check in and restaurants. This three story wing tends to have smaller rooms than typical. The tower wing, originally the Surfrider hotel, is the high rise tower. Rooms near the street can have significant urban noise. Rooms are either facing the adjacent Outrigger hotel (not ideal view) or Diamond Head / ocean (preferred). The spa is located in this wing. Any room facing the Banyan courtyard will be faced with music from the Beach Bar from afternoon until 10p. The diamond wing was the original Surfrider, but we’ve not stayed there yet to offer any review of that wing. The hotel charges a daily resort fee for welcome lei and included resort activities (e.g. yoga) which can be booked on their website in advance. The pool is quite small for the number of rooms at this hotel, but the ocean is steps away. The beach and pool desk provides the included towels, and beach chairs can be rented also. A small number of cabanas can be rented in advance online. As Platinum Elite members we used our suite upgrade for a tower wing oceanfront suite which was amazing. A hot or cold continental breakfast was complimentary either at the cafe (grab and go) or Verdana restaurant.
