We stayed at the Royal Hawaiian for four nights, and we make it a point to stay here at least once a year whenever we come to Hawaii. We’re always so pleased with the overall experience, especially the beach service. A special thank you to Darrell and Puna — you truly made our stay even more memorable. Your kindness and warmth are deeply appreciated. The location and views are absolutely amazing, and the hotel itself is stunning with so much character and history. That said, the rooms could definitely use some updates. For the price point, I do feel the design and overall condition should reflect a higher standard. Some areas feel quite outdated. We stayed in the newer (modern) building this time, but I personally preferred the historic building where we stayed last year. I don’t quite understand the decision to renovate the historic side, as its charm is part of what makes this hotel so special. In my opinion, the modern wing would benefit more from renovation, as it feels more dated — especially considering that nearby beachfront hotels offer more updated facilities and design for a significantly lower price. Despite this, I truly appreciate the beauty and unique historic charm of this hotel, and I still hope to return again for future trips.
Positive: For a 5 star hotel you expect a clean comfortable room. Where the Royal Hawaiian exceeds expectations is in the way each and every staff member makes you feel welcome. Whether cleaner, valet or front desk, I got a warm friendly greeting. Negative: Unless you are very well off, the prices are quite high. Of course, Hawaii in general is expensive, and staying at the Royal was worth the experience.
My niece treated us to two nights at this excellent resort. We were very lucky to have a room in the historic part of the hotel, with the BEST view of the ocean! The room was excellent; everything about the resort is excellent. We had reserved beach lounges with an umbrella for a full day, right on the beach. On the second day, we had lounges by the small pool. There is a large pool which is shared with the Sheraton next door, which we did not use because we "heard" it was loaded with children. The food at the restaurants was fantastic. If you can afford it, this is the place to stay in Waikiki.
100% recommend staying here in this absolutely stunning classic hotel. You don’t feel like you’re in the hustle and bustle of Waikiki when staying here. The lush Gardens and ambience of the hotel are so relaxing. The room was a good size although the bathroom was definitely small for four people. The gorgeous wood doors were absolutely stunning and our view of the gardens was gorgeous. The lobby hotel is a stunning way to start your trip. There is a small pool on site, but we decided to use the pool next-door that you are allowed to use as it has water slides for the kids and much more family friendly. The beach is gorgeous and we will see the most beautiful sunset there. The hotel offers sunscreen and towels. All in all we had an amazing day and I would definitely recommend this hotel. Definitely get breakfast at the Royal Hawaiian bakery located just outside the lobby and don’t be afraid of the line if it’s 100% worth it.
This place was amazing I stayed at 4 other Marriotts during my 7 day stay and this one was by far the most accomodating and quiet. I love the staff Claudia in housekeeping and Roland the concierge was so kind and helpful. The bellhops were very respectful and professional. Truly a blessed place.
Had a most pleasant experience at this iconic resort. Outstanding service. Breathtaking views. Truly at the center of Waikiki; beach on one side, the hub-bub of incredible city life on the other... yet ensconced in a serene garden setting. We stayed at the "newer" Mailani towers. Room facilities were slightly dated, but the layout was most thoughtfully designed. Opened to a large balcony (lanai) with direct view of the expansive beach and ocean. On-site restaurant Azure offers a French inspired island cuisine, 5 course price fixed. Pricey, but delectable, innovative and unique, that I dint think you will find anywhere in the island. The same restaurant setting serves breakfast in the morning, try the pink pancakes. Great setting right by the ocean.
Historic downtown Waikiki hotel- very regal with gardens, friendly staff, and lots of history! Rooms are a bit dated ( stayed in the Molokai tower oceanfront) and small. Be prepared - this place is busy! Beach area is packed like sardines, the 2 on site restaurants are super busy and the whole area is teeming with people! Enjoying the centrally located hotel but would have preferred something more refined and exclusive - especially for the price.
