Econo Lodge Kent - Akron West

this hotel obviously isn't the best but for the price if you just need a room for a night or 2 I think it's better than some, the staff and cleaning ladies have been accommodating for me. fridge, microwave, tv and bed are good, Hotel needs some updating but my rooms clean. They do want a larger than normal deposit which I paid in cash and no problem receiving my deposit in full at checkout so I guess it's okay.

1. Place is extremely tired and dirty. Either needs an extensive refurbishing effort or knocked down and start over. 2. No hot water. Reported the problem almost immediately after check-in, but was still unresolved in the morning. 3. Very noisy guests. I believe they have people staying here on a regular basis who consider this place their personal habitat and think they're the only ones here. 4. I read the terrible reviews after I had booked and paid, or I would never have decided to stay here. Because of this, I called ahead and requested that my room be cleaned properly, and because of that, it was better than the rest of the hotel. When I left my room, I still had to step over bags of garbage that were left blocking my door. EconoLodge is not a high-end name, I realized. However, I am amazed that they would continue to allow this terrible situation to continue. It needs to be addressed!

It was quiet and not a lot of people running around. Manager was very nice and accommodating. Very helpful. Vending machines available, lots of parking. And breakfast was available also.

If you are looking for a cheap hotel, I would say this place is not bad but not great. Sure it was cheap, but do not let the bargain price fool you despite being just a few hundred yards from the highway. Our dresser and fridge were not in good shape. We had cigarette burns on the beds and the elevator definitely needed some maintenance. The yard next to where we parked is a mine field of turds left by pets. The place looked like it did not have its carpet replaced since 2005, the front entrance is not particularly wheelchair friendly and our shower was either really hot or luke warm. But there were no bed bugs, the microwave in our room worked well, the place does have an indoor pool as well as decent, free breakfast so it could have been worse. If you absolutely need to stay somewhere for cheap for one night, this place will be fine as it is close to car repair shops if you need one but if you want value for the money, keep looking.

This place has really gone down hill. We've stayed here the last 3 NYE due to friends having a NYE house party nearby. This time was the worst. They put signage up insinuating the elevator is out of order (although they don't specifically say it). Push the button and it works! They claim (again) the ice maker not working. Free continental breakfast is a few stale cakes tossed on a table. Worst part there was an active water leak in the bathroom that the toilet seat and shower had water on them, and the bathtowels on the shelf were damp. Another leak was visible above the sink, and a third in the middle of the room. I am shocked the health department doesn't shut it down, and somewhat more shocked that you let your name be on this run down dump.

We checked in later, about 10 pm. The front desk called to make sure I was still coming. Got there and checked in didn’t find out until 5:30 am that there was no hot water in the hotel. That’s something I feel we should have been told upon checking in! Couldn’t shower or anything. I was booked for 2 rooms for 2 nights. No hot water the entire stay! Both rooms were supposed to be double beds. One was not, then in that room there was no hair dryer nor did the electric outlet by the mirror work so on top of not being able to shower I couldn’t plug my hair straighter in to get ready in front of the mirror. In the rooms next to us were a bunch of extremely loud drunk men that left trash all through the hallway, empty alcohol containers, tons of them. It’s a no smoking hotel but yet the hallway reeked of maraijuana terribly every time we stepped out of the room. I’ve stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 times in the past years. This was by far my worst stay and I will not be returning nor would I ever recommend staying here to anyone. People stay in hotels to be able to sleep in a bed and shower. I could only do one of those things, as far as I’m concerned money should be refunded! It was purely ignorance and greed(not wanting to loose customers) to not tell someone there would be no hot water for their stay!

This was the most unkempt and disgusting building I've ever been inside. Every surface looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months or sometimes years. Sheets looked unwashed. The comforter had multiple holes from cigarette burns. Pillows had druel stains. The floor was crunchy from dirt and debris. The entire building smelt like mold and cigarettes. I had to lay my own towel down to even feel Ok about touching the bed. Used my backpack as a pillow. Never again.
