I spent a week at this hotel, which recreates a classic British style in the setting of an Ivy League environment in New England. The rooms don’t have views, but they compensate with a high level of comfort, and I must highlight the excellent lighting. The bathroom cleanliness and towels are outstanding, and the amenities make the stay genuinely pleasant. The hotel also has the Poindexter café, where they serve excellent specialty coffee that is truly worth trying. I only had the English muffins, but all the pastries looked delicious. The fact that the café is open to the public creates a warm, lively atmosphere throughout the hotel. That said, some of the lounge-style rooms designed for reading or working were occupied by students, who ideally shouldn’t take up space intended for guests. Overall, the hotel is still slightly below the standard typical of Hilton properties, as they are currently integrating it into the chain after its acquisition. They don’t yet offer services like guest laundry or a porter to help with the initial flight of eight stairs at the entrance, which can make access difficult. As for the staff, they were truly wonderful — and I also had the chance to meet the hotel’s director personally and share these impressions with her, which I greatly appreciated. The hotel is located right in the heart of New Haven — a magnificent place to stay. ❤️
The Graduate is such an experience. It is so welcoming, nicely decorated, lots of wood and "old school" vibes. It is very clean and the staff are so friendly. Our room was beautiful from the wall decor paintings to the bed, linens, etc. The shower/bathroom was elegant, yes I said elegant. And the shower door had no water marks a little while after use. I need to know how they are made and where do you buy them! It was quiet and very comfortable. The location was great because we had to go to the Smilow Hospital and it was just 4 minutes away.
Very boutique hotel with detailed interior design work performed on it. This used to be a dorm room for Yale students and they've kept that ambiance. You'll see highly curated furnishings that will really make you appreciate the time it took a designer to come up with. Don't expect any cookie cutter layouts of furniture from this hotel. The staff are super friendly and amongst some of the most friendly hotel staff I've encountered. I plan to visit New Haven again solely for the hotel, and will make up day time activities to fill the time.
Great location, beautiful lobby and rooms, warm and welcoming staff…lower review was more out of frustration of not being able to find a place to sit and talk, have a coffee and relax as a guest because the place is taken over by students (often one per table) studying. This literally was until 11pm at night…students use as a place to meet for groups and solo study. Just disappointing as a paying guest not to be able to use the lovely lobby rooms/nooks
Cute hotel. Gives a traditional vibe. Love the decorations. The location is perfect. It’s a short walk to the galleries and shops and restaurants in New Haven. I chose to stay here bc I like to explore historical hotels. I have a good stay here.
This hotel was everything we needed it to be on a rainy October night. It was cozy, warm, comfortable and quiet. We got a great nights sleep on the 5th floor. The beds are comfortable but small. The hotel feels like you stepped back in time in a good way! The woman at the front desk was helpful and kind. The only thing to be aware of is to enter the lobby you do have to walk up about 6 stairs, and lift your luggage, not sure if there is a ramp or elevator for those who would need it, so check that prior if you would need that. Once inside there is an elevator to the rooms. Parking is also not provided or included with your stay but we stayed on a Sunday and therefore we could park for free on the street overnight, just had to feed the meter by 8am Monday, there are lots of parking ramps within walking distance! We are Hilton Diamond members and were able to use our room credit at the cafe for breakfast which was convenient! After this stay we will be seeking out other Graduate hotels in areas we travel!
Super cool concept hotel. Staff was great, decor is kinda all fitting with their graduate ("The Graduate" movie) theme, even the college ID style key cards for room keys. Offered us water after a late check in on a hot summer evening & enjoyed a wonderful weekend there using the hotel as home base. Recommended
