I had to come to Richmond for a business trip. I called several hotels (call centers for the hotels) but when I called The Berkeley, Alfreda at the front desk, answered. She was so helpful and took care of everything I needed. I was so impressed that I got an actual person, at the location, who was knowledgeable and accomodating and she knows how to take care of people. She has that southern charm that is perfectly welcoming! Ricky, our valet, was thorough, curtious, a hard worker, and very pleasant. We had 4 cars and he knew who was driving which vehicle and told us what number to ask for when equesting a vehicle. We were not forced to valet and were told we could self park, but not knowing Richmond very well or where public parking was, I was perfectly happy to let them take care of the parking. The Berkley rates A+ on hospitality through and through. The hotel is being renovated and our rooms were all beautiful and clean. The beds and pillows were amazing! They have good coffee in the morning (at this time there was no breakfast available but breakfast restaurants are within walking distance). The room rates were very reasonable. I recommend the Berkley to anyone visiting Richmond.
There was no trashcan in my room and there's no parking but, otherwise, this place was fantastic! The rooms are modern and cozy. Would definitely stay again.
February 2026: We stayed for only 1 night (thank goodness). Nowhere on the hotel’s web site does it indicate that you will be overpaying to stay in a construction site! Not kidding! We only learned about the ongoing construction via a sign on our way to the elevators after checking in. The elevator had packing blankets hanging in it presumably to protect it from construction materials. We were getting settled into our room (#1) when we noticed trash in the trashcans and an obviously used robe in the closet. So, a partially cleaned room? Upon calling the front desk we were told that there wasn’t any housekeeping available in the evening so we would be put into a new room. Btw the front desk lady was very pleasant. Upon entering the new room (#2) we found ourselves in a literal construction site. Holes in walls, unfinished ceiling around sprinklers and fixtures, construction dust on everything, nuts and bolts on the floor, broken chairs on the balcony, a lighted mirror that didn’t light up, and a toilet that barely flushed. (See photos of room #2.) By this time we were travel weary and just went to sleep. We will most definitely NOT be staying in this "4-star hotel" again…what a joke, it’s 2-star at best! IF you choose to stay here, best of luck! We advise staying at Omni across the street if you like the area.
We have stayed here many times. They have been renovating for years. Hotel check in is great Employes are friendlyand professional! Valet great. The new rooms are modern and spacious. Great restaurant accross the street, Tobacco Company Restaurant. There is a restaurant/bar on the property, they share the entrance but are not the same buisness, The Chef's Kitchen. We wanted a glass of wine before going up to our room and we were told that they can't take any "walk-ins" . Meanwhile a photographer for Valentines day was trying to goad us into a picture. I'm sure they we overwhelmed with Valentines night couples reservations, but when your connected to the hotel lobby you must expect hotel guests to enter, especially when your doors are open. Very strange.
I recently photographed a couples session at The Berkeley Hotel and the experience was wonderful. The historic architecture and elegant interiors provided a beautiful backdrop that perfectly matched my clients' vision for their photos. The team at The Berkeley was incredibly accommodating and professional throughout the shoot. They made the process seamless and were happy to help us capture exactly what we were looking for. The location offers stunning photo opportunities both inside and out, and the results turned out beautifully. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous and would make for a wonderful stay if you're looking for a luxurious downtown Richmond experience. Whether you're booking for a special occasion or just need elegant accommodations, The Berkeley delivers on every level. If you're looking for a sophisticated Richmond location for portraits, engagement photos, or any special occasion photography, The Berkeley Hotel is an excellent choice. The combination of gorgeous aesthetics and helpful staff makes it a photographer's dream. Highly recommend! Stephen Lawson Photography
I stayed at the Berkeley Hotel during Virginia’s inauguration weekend, when the hotel was understandably very busy and fast-paced. Even in the middle of the heightened activity, Noah at the front desk stood out for his exceptional service.||From my very first phone call to confirm my reservation through checkout, Noah was consistently warm, professional, and attentive. Despite the hectic environment, he handled every interaction with calm confidence and genuine care. When I had questions about safely storing my belongings after checkout, he immediately stepped in and made the process seamless and completely stress-free.||Whether it was something small—like providing a pen—or more involved, such as giving clear directions and answering questions, Noah was unfailingly courteous, polished, and helpful. His steady presence during such a high-volume weekend truly made a difference and played a meaningful role in making my stay so positive.||I also want to note that the rest of the Berkeley Hotel staff demonstrated the same level of professionalism and courtesy, which speaks volumes about the hotel’s culture and leadership.||Highly recommend the Berkeley Hotel, especially during major events—and special thanks to Noah for outstanding service.
Great front desk service. The hotel is under renovation in the hallways of the room floors, but my room was gorgeous. Angel S. on valet was great. If you're there on a weekday, I'd recommend calling for your car from valet at least 10-15 minutes in advance.
