The Stepping Stone Inn

Amazing, beautiful, clean, quiet, cozy, ALL of the above!! Our experience at the Inn far exceeded all expectations. The owners were SO very friendly, accommodating, and helpful! They even saved me from a return-travel-ferry issue I was having all because they cared & took the time to make sure I was all set. Their kitties are completely adorable, smart, and entertaining. Our hearts now belong to Clifford the Cat. You just feel so purely at home there. Delicious coffee & perfect breakfast options to start the day right. I left feeling so grateful. Thank you for a ten-thousand star experience!

Visited Salem this October and stayed at the Stepping Stone Inn and loved this place. It's in a fantastic location and the owners, Matt & Kelly are amazing hosts, plus the 3 gorgeous cats. We stayed in the Salem room which is in the attic and it was perfectly charming. It was small and compact but had what we needed for our two night stay. The main kitchen and front room were always available for us to sit in if we wanted to and tea/coffee was laid on every morning, plus with takeaway cups. We had to book this well in advance for our October stay but it was worth it and when we visit Salem again (of which i'm certain we will} then i'll be making sure i book The Stepping Stone Inn.

We had an amazing stay here! The location is very central to the Salem area. We were able to walk nearly everywhere over the weekend. It’s about 15 minutes away from the transit station. Matt and Kelly were both super friendly and always happy to offer recommendations or just chat. Matt’s coffee is excellent and I say that as a very much not coffee person. The room was nice and cozy and comfortable. The feline staff are also quite friendly, the pictures I attached are of Clifford and Bix. Overall the stay was perfect and I’ll definitely be looking to book again next time we’re in town.

We stayed a couple nights at the Stepping Stone and had a wonderful experience. The owners were very accommodating, gracious, and had answers to any questions about the area. We were fortunate to have our own "private host" to check in on us while we were in our room (photo). I have to say Matt's Famous Coffee was no joke, as an avid coffee drinker myself it was one of the smoothest I've ever had and listening to how he came up with it was interesting tweaking things here and there. I highly recommend the Stepping Stone if you're looking for a quaint quiet place to stay after a day of walking around Salem. It is located right next to one of Salem's main attractions (Salem Witch Museum) which can get crowded while patrons are waiting to go inside, but we never felt it hindered our experience. Plus the Stepping Stone is in an ideal location for anyone looking to explore Salem.

The hotel is an amazing find with it being walking distance to Essex street and all attractions, but more importantly, it felt like a second home, the room was excellent with an amazing bathroom, the colours of the furniture to absolutely everything inside being warming and welcoming. Matt our host with the most is very knowledgeable about the local area and is always ready to help not to mention his amazing early morning coffee, we were so lucky to book it during the halloween period and loved every moment. P.s we will miss all 3 of his lovely cats who also call it home

An absolutely perfect experience at the Stepping Stone Inn. Matt and Kelly are wonderful and welcoming hosts! The accommodations are lovely, the decor is cozy, there are so many interesting things to look at on the walls and the tables, they have a lovely home and they make you feel at home. We were amazed that we could walk everywhere, the farthest walk was 15 minutes to one of the wharfs. We parked the car at the Inn and were off on foot. Matt and Kelly are amazing hosts and their cats are so adorable. We stayed in the Boston room, it was clean and comfortable. You wake up in the morning smelling the fresh roast of coffee that Matt brews and it is lovely. It’s in the heart of Salem… you can walk to the restaurants, shopping and the museums. It’s a great location. I definitely recommend!!! Perfect place to spend the weekend!!
