The Sofia Hotel

My wife and I had an amazing experience at the Sofia Hotel. The hotel looks old from the outside. However, once you go inside, you will be surprised. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous. The location is the best part. It’s in the heart of downtown. Most places we wanted to check out were within walking distance. Just a great experience overall.

Positive: Within walking distance of our activities Negative: Room was small for price, sliding door on bathroom did not close all the way, shower drain was not adequate so two inches of standing water while showering, audio cable on TV didn't work and we had to use our personal device for media. Staff not friendly.

Absolutely loved my stay at the Sophia Hotel in San Diego! The room was incredibly spacious, perfect for my family of six. The customer service was top-notch—everyone was so friendly and attentive. We had plenty of room for the kids to play and enough privacy for the adults. Very super clean!! Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A lovely hotel right on Broadway, location is unbeatable for the price. I thought there were some issues that could be addressed. The bathroom is tiny, and there is no place in the bathroom for shower stuff (no shelf) and oddly no hand towels given. The drain was very slow but fine pressure in the shower. All but one of the plugs did not work, and no USB provided. Having the towel rack over the toilet paper seems like a poor choice, and there is hardly room for a trash can. Nonetheless a pleasant stay in a lovely hotel.

Although the location is good, but I still strongly don’t recommend. The bed is not clean, there are multiple bug bites on my neck and back after one night stay, and I didn’t sleep well due to the itchy skin. Not to mention the room has poor soundproofing, I can hear conversations in the next room.

Should be 5 here as all are nice but to have running fans in rooms would be great to draw out street noises. I can't do ear plugs as don't feel safe wearing and those who can wear put trust in all others in emergencies. No bath tubs and no hot tub makes it tough when I walk lots. It is quiet enough for a large city but please space guests out room to room when not many are present at same time. Thanks and I may stay again but do prefer the above suggests.

I have stayed in some sub standard hotels in my numerous business travels but the Sofia hotel could be in the top 10 dumps I have sadly stayed at in the US. Walking in from the street is like stepping back into the 80’s. From there it only gets worse as the receptionist tells you there is the now common US hospitality industry cash grab of an "Amenity Fee" of around 25 bucks per day. Ask what you get for that and you have a water refill station on your floor, access to a 3rd rate gym, and can rent a bike for 3hrs. Yup that’s a cash grab! Not like the management pours that money into the joint as room is small and rather tasteless for its decor. Hall ways on the floors are West Virginia coal mine dark so recommend future travellers bring a back country camping head lamp or risk wandering the floor in darkness in search of your broom closet size room. To any reader thinking I am embellishing how awful this place is think twice before walking into this cave…..you have been warned!
