The room was clean and housekeeping did a good job. We had to request an additional set of towels when we checked in, but that was quickly remedied by the helpful and friendly staff. A jacuzzi tub in the room was an unexpected plus. The location is very convenient. We had a car (there was ample free parking for guests), but the local bus stops right outside. Good places to eat are also within walking distance. I'd stay here again
The hotel has updated pretty much everything. The carpet, the rooms, the entry. It's got old school vibe with new school attitude. I loved staying here. The walls are a little thin but all the guests seemed polite and recognized the need to be a little more quiet. If you can appreciated history and enjoy that old and new are melding at this hotel, then you should stay here. They even have a giant jet tub in every room. The beds were a little stiff for my liking but my boyfriend loved them. So its all in perspective. The rooms were really large as well. Plus the breakfast in the morning was delicious they didn't scrimp on anything. Staff was exceptional as well and i dealt with 3 different associates. All were customer service oriented. I would stay here again no question!
Reading the reviews after booking my stay made me a little nervous about staying here but I just kept my booking. Checking in was super easy and fast , the staff could have been more welcoming. Front desk staff was just too dry for me but not rude. The smell of the hotel and rooms was clean , no issues with that. I might say that this Hotel needs a major update. Everything is supper run down and old, its not dirty it's just very old. Recommendation for the owner, just start renovating one room at a time you don't have to close down. Just a tip to future guest, come in check in at 4pm and not to late because the parking fills up fast. Very convenient to SAP just a 5 minute walk.
Made a reservation here approximately 1 year in advance. But when it was less than 3 months from the date of the event I received an email they had cancelled the room with no explanation. This put me in a ridiculously difficult situation. I went on their website and they were offering the room I had booked for over $1,000 a night. Guess when you're only paying a few hundred, you are subject to random cancellation for more profitable guests. I will never book here again...ever.
This is not a family friendly motel-If I could give a rating of zero I would. The rooms were filthy, crunchy carpet, sheets dingy and dirty and the bathroom was so dirty not to mention the holes in the wall and cigarette burns around the bathtub. After 10 minutes we decided to leave and find another place to stay. On our floor you could hear guests arguing loudly in their rooms and banging on the doors, just not a safe environment for a family vacation. So when we went to cancel our reservation and ask for a refund of the second day we were informed that I had to cancel 48 hrs ahead of the reservation that there wasn't anything the front desk attendant could do. I didn't ask for a full refund just to have my 2nd night refunded I was abruptly told to email the manager and asked if I wanted his card? Umm yes please! - Then the security guard followed us out to the parking lot to take pictures of us in our car. When confronted as to why he took pictures, he said he didn't he was on his phone - I explained that the flash on the camera doesn't go off when you are talking on the phone. UPDATE: 2 years later and still nothing has been done...website still shows a clean "Hotel" AGAIN warning this is not a family friendly Hotel, it is a pay by the hour and drug infested motel.
Every worker seemed like they hated their jobs. The person who initially was going to check us in basically walked off the job. Hotel is run down at best, light fixtures were hanging from the wires. Buttons were missing in the elevator. The lobby bathrooms were just awful, both men and women's entrance doors had windows, you could see directly in the bathroom. That is probably due to the interesting neighborhood surrounding this hotel. Parking lot was dark, homeless were going through the trash cans outside the room. Rooms were big enough and the bathroom even had a jacuzzi tub in it, all I had to do was ignore the burn marks on the soap dish in the tub.... Jacuzzi was cool and worked but that was not enough to fix the rest of the issues we encountered. To top it all off the young worker had to chase off 2 guys who were up to no good. The worker go's back to the lobby and starts checking people in while still wearing his hoody... really? Not going back!
I lived in San Jose for over 20 years and continue to go back for business. I've stayed in many hotels throughout the years to try and find the right one for a reasonable price. I was highly disappointed with this hotel for just about every reason. The staff was less than satisfactory when checking me in. Apparently, the housekeeping staff and the front desk don't communicate because the maid woke me up the second day I was there and was surprised that I was in there. Sketchy people are loitering in the front of the building and parking lot throughout the night. The building and the rooms are absolutely terrible and horrifying. I happened to be in Room 239. The bathtub was falling apart, the furniture is rusted or falling apart, the walls are stained, and the patchwork is horrible. The carpet is stained, and only God knows what it's been stained with. The final morning that I was there, a drunk guy roamed the hallways and pounding on doors at 5 am. I'm trying to understand how this hotel has an average of 3.8 verified reviews when it should be a 1. I've stayed in Motel 6's that are much better than the Arena Hotel. Look at the photos I've posted. Save your money and don't ever stay at this hotel.
