I had a very pleasant stay at Sandbourne Santa Monica. The hotel has easy access to the beach, which is one of its biggest perks. I also appreciated the excellent service from the staff—everyone was friendly and attentive throughout my stay. The in-room amenities were surprisingly good. The towels were high-quality, and the robe was one of the best I’ve had at any hotel. Even the slippers were noticeably comfortable. I was also upgraded to an ocean-view room, and yes—the view is real and absolutely worth it. The only downside is that it’s a bit far from the metro, which can be inconvenient if you rely on public transit. But overall, a solid and enjoyable stay.
The ocean views are awesome. You really are right across the street from the beach and pier. The hotel staff was super nice, courteous, and above accommodating. My wife and I were able to enjoy breakfast, the beach with chairs and towels provided by the hotel, and the pool. Our checkout could not have been any better. The staff made it comfortable to enjoy our time before a later than originally planned flight home. We will absolutely return to this hotel the next time we visit.
Excellent stay last week. Really nice refurbished hotel from JW Marriott years ago. Special shout outs to Ari, Reo, Jesse, Lavit $ Nancy. Great breakfast too. Perfect location near Santa Monica pier. Try the Mexican Restaurant happy hour across the street. Sandbourne is 5/5 stars!!!
Excellent hotel - whoever rebranded the hotel as an Autograph Collection did a phenomenal job on the interior design. Excellent staff from the front desk to friendly housekeepers in the hall. Hotel has rebranded a few times so perhaps older reviews are included in the average. Great Marriott Bonvoy elite recognition - room with a view on a busy weekend and $20/day x2 guests for breakfast. Great area with tons of restaurants and doesn't get any better than oceanfront. Pool area was unique and a great vibe. Coffee maker up on request was Nespresso, always a nice treat.
Pros: Clean rooms Cutely decorated interior Friendly valet team Near the beach Cons: I am in my room now and can literally hear everything in the next room as if it were in my room. It feels awkward and it’s been hard to sleep. Some of the staff at the front desk have been rather cold and terse. We asked if the pool was open and the guy looked at us as if we were inconveniencing him and told us it was closed. So I asked about the sauna and he gave us directions. But it lead us nowhere. And we were too afraid to ask again based on the first interaction with him. Next, I ordered room service. And the prices seemed ok, but the meals were pretty small and bare. I ordered a shrimp salad and fries. But unfortunately the shrimp and fries were basically too salty to eat. I was able to rinse the shrimp off which helped. But the fries were just way too salty. So I called the front desk (there was no directory in the room so I had to google to find the number) and I kindly explained what happened with my meal and asked for a replacement. And he simply said "I’ll transfer you to the kitchen". Then I hustled got a voicemail for the kitchen but haven’t heard back in over an hour. For me the price of the room where I can hear everything from my neighbors and food just doesn’t seem to be worth it.
The Sanbourne is in an amazing spot in Santa Monica with really nice and large rooms and design. The hotel itself is beautiful and the location couldn’t be better. The service, though, wasn’t quite what I’d expect from a Marriott. It felt a bit understaffed. When I asked someone to be careful with my bag, the first person didn’t seem too bothered/ said he couldn’t accommodate that, but another staff member stepped in and was much more helpful. There also wasn’t any service at the pool, which was disappointing. They told me my room was almost ready and that I’d be able to check in early, but it seemed like they purposely waited until 3 PM to hand over the keys. Overall, the place is great if you care about location and vibe, but the service definitely has room to improve.
Great location and California vibes. Staff is excellent and attentive. Rooms are top-rate and couldn’t have had a better stay. Not crowded, layouts are well planned and restaurant on site has both indoor and outdoor seating with a large menu.
