This is one of those hotels that looks nice from the front but the further you go back you realize it's like a movie set- the back is sketchy. The room I was placed in was on the second floor facing out of the front of the building. I did not have any issues in my room however, friends had many issues with their room- to the point they checked-out and went to the hotel next door. There is a bar/restaurant that is located inside the hotel. Appears to attract many locals and honestly had some great service and food. Did not go in the indoor pool but others were in the pool when we walked by- looked decent. The workout room needs some work. Although clean looking it lacked. Need a run or on the elliptical you are good! I walked a lap around the inside of the hotel as it is a square like with the outdoor pool as the center. The more you went away from the front of the building the less nice it went. There is a large ballroom inside the hotel which was surprising. Peeking inside with the lights out. It did look nice. I could only imagine the weddings and such that took place in the hotel in its heyday. Overall, would I stay here again. No- not with the reports of friends in their hotel rooms.

Positive: It called itself a Wingate Inn, but it was not anywhere near Wingate Inn quality. Negative: It did not have an elevator. The bed was high off the floor, my wife, who has back trouble, had major difficulty getting in it. Apparently there are no rooms with handicap accommodations. Old, small, bathroom, rusty fixtures, mold along tub.

Room was spacious. However not enough light. We had to turn on all the lights and that was just enough decent lighting. Each guest host at the front desk was warm, friendly and a smile. We also like that Jays II is adjacent to the hotel. Easily accessible from the hotel hallway. We've already made reservations to stay at the hotel in two months (April 2026).

Avoid at All Costs||This was hands-down one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The property itself is an absolute dump and nowhere near what’s advertised online.||The staff were the biggest problem. They were rude, unwelcoming, and openly hostile—especially toward kids staying there for a youth hockey tournament. Instead of being accommodating to families, staff members harassed the kids, spoke to them disrespectfully, and created a tense, uncomfortable environment the entire stay. On top of that, they threatened parents with a $100 charge if their kids so much as walked down the hallway without a parent, which felt excessive, hostile, and completely unreasonable for a hotel knowingly hosting a youth sports group.||The rooms were misleading. The beds were advertised as queen-size, but they were clearly full-size at best. This made an already cramped and run-down room even worse. Cleanliness and comfort were seriously lacking.||Breakfast was barely edible. The food tasted awful—honestly comparable to dog food—and felt like an afterthought rather than a perk. We skipped it after the first attempt.||Overall, this hotel failed on every level: misleading advertising, poor accommodations, terrible food, and staff who seemed annoyed that guests were even there. Save yourself the frustration and stay somewhere else.

We stayed here for a Notre Dame game and it was perfect. It was a short Uber ride to campus (although the do offer a shuttle for a fee). They have a restaurant/bar on site with a good menu. We stopped in before the game and later after we got back, as they stay open late on game days as long as there are customers. Room was clean and front desk staff were nice. There isn't a elevator, which wasnt a big deal for us, but may make things difficult if you have a lot of heavy luggage. Overall, we would definitely recommend and we will definitely stay there again for future ND games.

Hotel looks as if it is going through a transition. Some outdated features, carpeting and decor a little tired, bathrooms with touches of m&m here and there and spotty plumbing re: hot and cold water. Large ballrooms/conference rooms looked to be mothballed at the moment. That being said, however, the staff was extremely conscientious and helpful. From the moment we walked in until our departure, everyone affiliated was pleasant, friendly and gracious. Breakfast was standard fare as expected, but also constantly changed and freshened and the lovely lady who was working the room could not have been friendlier; and by the sounds of things, her son in the back of the house was responsible for a lot of the prepping and cooking and the sausage gravy was definitely something to write home about. Sometimes dated hotels I think suffer a bit when it comes to reviewing; but if we were to visit South Bend again, I would most definitely look to see if there was availability here. Compared to other hotels in the area, it was quite a bargain walket-wise and the affable service more than made for some of the structural shortcomings. I would definitely stay again.

This hotel is under new ownership since we were last there. The room was comfortable and breakfast was adequate. The indoor pool had been re-done and was excellent and very clean. The one draw back is that the pool room was very cold which made it challenging to swim long. The halls and breakfast room were also chilly. The staff, however, was friendly and helpful. The manager even opened the pool early for the kids to swim.
