I had a great stay at this hotel. The rooms were very clean and much larger than I expected, which made the stay very comfortable. The staff was also very accommodating and allowed me a late check-out, which I really appreciated. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely stay here again.
Positive: The room furnishings were nice Negative: The building seemed not well maintained. Our bathroom door wouldn't close, 1 elevator was broken, and 2 out of 3 stalls in the women's bathroom were out of order. There was always a long line at the front desk. Breakfast was disappointing.
PLEASE DO NOT STAY THIS LOCATION. If you live in Topeka or currently traveling to Topeka, KS DO NOT STAY AT HYATT PLACE TOPEKA‼️ they’re currently operating when supposed to be closed due to heating boilers not properly hooked up or inspected for city codes. The police and the city have been out multiple times. The general manager has chosen to keep operation going as well as the acting ownership. They instructed workers to not tell or if the city shows up to immediately call management so they can shut the water off before being caught. Multiple reports of bed bug issues that wasn’t handled for weeks. Unfair treatment of employees to where we have no choice but to leave due to safety hazard issues! They even went as far as washing linen in cold water only which is unsafe and disgusting! Meeting room has mold in the walls and ceilings! Do not eat the food as well it is expired and the manager thinks if it’s bagged up it’s still good even though it’s past the toss out date! Please do not stay here unless you’re okay with a unsafe environment and hotel
As Hyatt regulars, this place was very disappointing. See pictures attached; the window was extremely dirty, and there were boogers on the wall… pretty gross. On top of that, one of the employees knocked on our door around 10am the morning of our check out, and immediately opened the door without waiting for me to answer. What the hell? All just to confirm with me what time I plan to leave? It pisses me off the more I think of it. What if one of us weren’t decent at the time? Why is that even a business practice at this hotel? We know check out times when we check in, so why bother visitors by barging in and asking? This place should not represent the hyatt brand, but rather a motel 6.
Hotel was clean, room was nice with fridge, microwave, and couch seating. Bed area was a little tight to get in and out of beds on one side. Breakfast was nice. There was no decaf coffee in the lobby. I didn't ask, they may have had some in the back. Quiet location on a weekend. Overall a pleasant stay for one night and would stay again.
I’m very disappointed in the hotel/Hyatt itself. We’d been traveling all day and arrived around 3:15am. A $100 pet fee is absolutely bonkers for an older hotel like this, on top of the time of arrival AND the fact that we’d only be there for eight hours. So frustrated with that. The water cartridge was reversed so it took a LONG time to get hot water. 20 minutes, actually. When we finally did get hot water.. it was lukewarm at best. In the morning, it took 12 minutes to get hot water and it came in waves. It was extremely hot (couldn’t stand under the water, burning hot) then would flow to cold every two minutes with terrible water pressure. Bathroom was small, there was at least one stain on the comforter that I saw and no hair dryer as stated on the site. That was just in the small amount of time we were there. Can’t imagine if we’d been staying longer what other things we’d encounter. Will not stay here again. I do want to want to say Travis at the front desk tried his best at accommodating us. He was concerned and kind. He deserves good things! Thank you, Travis. This is on the hotel/Hyatt/management.
Just no. I arrived on Friday night at 7:30 P.M. I went to the counter to check in. My card was taken for the required incidental hold of $50. I was then was told there were a lot of late checkouts that day and my room, which I had booked about two weeks in advance, was not yet ready. I was asked to wait in the lobby. I am pretty laid back, so I went and sat and did some work I had to do. People start coming in the front door of the lobby asking, "Can we check in yet? Is our room ready yet?" One employee was left in the lobby of the hotel fielding people who had been waiting longer than I had just getting angrier and angrier. The employee did his best to stay professional and keep the peace, but he was put in a crappy situation amd the manager on duty refused to come down and show her face when he called and requested her. There was standing room only in the lobby by 9 PM. A kid was sleeping on the couch because he was so tired. I was finally called up to the counter. I was asked for my card again. When I pointed out I had already swiped for the incidentals, the employee (same one) said he didn't see any indication of the previous hold. I just wanted to sleep, so I swiped my card again and was given a key. The hold was duplicated and both are still on my card at the time of this posting. I finally got into a room at 9:30 PM. Room was clean. I was exhausted, so I went to sleep. I woke to take a shower which, thankfully, was hot. The water pressure so abismal, however, it took me about 10 minutes longer to get the shampoo rinsed out. I was out the door before breakfast, which started at 7 AM, on both days of my visit. When I arrived back at my hotel at 8 PM, after a long day the second day, I got to my door on the 6th floor and the key had been disabled. I went back down to the lobby and they reprogrammed the key. Once in my room, I turned the TV on. Some kind of weak or no signal message was displayed. There were two local channels that came in clear enough to watch. I called the front desk. The employee said he was aware of the issue and was working with the provider to get it worked out. Based on my experience waiting on a room and no satellite/cable, it makes me wonder if vendors and staff are getting paid. Final day I had a late checkout. I came back to the hotel around noon to get my stuff and check out. I was once again locked out of my room, as the keycard had been disabled. One final point of reference. While waiting on rooms in the lobby Friday evening, I went to the common restroom off the lobby. Two of the three toilets were out of order. They were still out of order Sunday when I left. I like the location of this hotel. I will not be staying there again unless or until something major changes.
