General Wood Shop

Wisconsinite here, and this bar is perfect! I was visiting a friend from Michigan and we saw this place driving by and knew we had to stop in. The vibe is the place was awesome and the music level was perfect for having a easy conversation while enjoying the tunes. The drinks were flawless. As someone who loves to mix a cocktail, the drinks didn't have any gaps and imagine my surprise where the gin used in the Ghoul is my personal favorite. Not to mention the food is insanely unique. We ordered the pork belly bao and the panko chicken quesadilla and it was delicious. I never new a bar would make planning a trip to Michigan a necessity!

My sister and I visited on a Friday night so parking wasn’t fun but we did find one closer than we thought we would! We walked in and it was seat yourself so we grabbed a booth. We were told right away that in an hour there would be a cover charge starting for a live DJ which was nice to have the warning for. We ordered drinks and food right away. They have quite a few drinks that looked delicious! Their menu was limited but we both found something that looked good. We only waited a minute or two for drinks and our food came out quickly. The food was really good! My sister and I always share our choices and we both had different favorites. Overall it had a great atmosphere and the staff was really friendly! Definitely recommend checking out General Wood Shop if you’re looking for a bar downtown!

Kali at The General Woodshop Bar is incredible. From the moment you walk in, she makes you feel completely welcome — warm, attentive, and genuinely fun to talk to. She’s got an amazing energy that instantly sets the vibe, and she clearly knows her craft. Every drink she’s made for me has been spot-on, balanced, and full of personality (you can tell she takes real pride in what she does). It’s rare to find someone who can make you laugh, remember your go-to order, and still handle a busy bar with total ease — but Kali does it all. The General Woodshop is already a great spot, but Kali’s the reason I keep coming back. If you’re visiting, do yourself a favor and grab a seat at her bar — you’ll leave with a smile and probably a new favorite drink.

Do yourself a favor and check it out. I'm particular with burger quality, especially in the GR area. I can't believe the Ramen Burger is the best one I've had here. The Transcendence drink was well balanced and strong. However, my 2nd one did feel weaker. Were great. They have a natural taste to them while being cooked well. *Staff were on top of it. I remembered the bartender from Rumors, and they were equally friendly/helpful there. Will be returning

Yup…try this place. Small gem (bar/small dining) on Bridge just on outskirts of downtown GR. Simple yet elegant choices for food & cocktails making the experience much more pleasant (not "too many" options). They execute those fewer options very well. Vibes/atmosphere great, service was good, cocktails & food we tried were delightful! Party tried the Bao Combo (picking the Panko Chicken, Pork Belly, & Barbacoa). All three did not disappoint; full of flavor. Those were paired with the fries topped with Truffle Mayo (thinner & crispy with skin, seasoned well). Cocktails we tried was Stiffler’s Mom and Let’s Smash (both beautifully presented and tasted great). Reasonably priced for the area and quality of items/experience. If you’re looking for a new spot to enjoy - this did not disappoint. (I would love to go for Brunch - looks so fun!!!)

I had an absolutely fantastic time at General Wood Shop, the new LGBTQ+ bar in west side GR! The cocktails and mocktails were not only delicious but also unique, clearly showing the thought and care put into crafting them. The panko chicken bao was tender and the bao itself was delightfully soft. And those fries with truffle Mayo were simply scrumptious! What truly made the experience stand out was the welcoming and accepting atmosphere. It was wonderful to be in a space where everyone felt comfortable and celebrated. I can't wait to return and create more cherished memories and experiences. General Wood Shop is definitely a must-visit spot! ️‍

Didn't have food but the vibe was tight and welcoming. Came by because in town for Billy Strings. Awesome drink recommendations from attentive and friendly staff from door to floor. Great spot. Recommended if you're in town and want a welcoming prideful spot!
