The District
The District in Jersey City stands out as a stylish, leather-themed restaurant blending elegant ambiance with a relaxed vibe. Its sophisticated decor—think plush seating, private booths, and mounted TVs—creates an inviting atmosphere ideal for dates, celebrations, or casual gatherings. The cocktail selection shines, with standout classics like the smoked old-fashioned and dirty martini, while the appetizers strike a perfect balance for solo diners or sharing.
Food offerings lean toward hearty options, with exceptional sandwiches (like the cheeseburger and French dip) and crispy, made-to-order fries as highlights. The service, though occasionally inconsistent, often delivers warmth and attentiveness, especially during quieter evenings. Are both lovely and extremely elegant restaurant this place should be your next spot for a birthday, date night, or even a girls night out! The drinks are exceptional. I highly recommend the smoked old-fashioned, and a dirty martini! The apps are small enough if you eat on your own, but big enough to share if you do not want to get full, I recommend ordering a bunch of appetizers to share! The sandwiches were incredible. One of the best cheeseburgers I’ve ever had, and the French dip was to die for! They have pool tables and leather couches that are extremely comfortable, you guys gotta check this place out.
We visited The District on a snowy Saturday night and was surprised to find it nearly empty. Maybe the weather kept people away, but given that it’s been open for about six months, I was surprised it wasn't busier. Granted, I personally hadn’t heard of it before this day. That said, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Service was definitely a highlight of the experience. The menu leans toward steakhouse fare, and while the food was solid, I’d probably still choose a dedicated steakhouse if I was craving steak. One standout, though, was the fries—fresh, crispy, and easily a highlight of the meal. Keep ensuring these are made to order- fabulous! The appetizers were good, but a small detail stood out: the portions were uneven, which made sharing a bit awkward. Since many diners come in pairs (date nights, etc.), serving even-numbered portions would make more sense. For those who enjoy games, the restaurant features three large pool tables, which would be great for groups. Personally, I’d love to see a dart area added, as pool isn’t really my thing. Overall, The District has potential, and with a bit more buzz and a few tweaks, it could become a go-to spot in Jersey City. Would I return? Maybe—especially with an addition of a dart board and for made to order fries.
The District is a sophisticated and chic spot in Jeraey City, a blink from the waterfront. The decor gives expensive with its warm ambiance, sleek and cozy sofas and chairs. There are private dining areas and mounted televisions, pool tables and a well put together bar. The drink prices were to be expected but I was surprised at the food prices. I had an oyster appetizer with caviar and it was $23. If course I tried it! The menu definitely has character but not depth. It could use a few more items for variety other than wings lol. My bartender was a ghost. She made my drink and she never came back to check on me even after my food was brought out. I would have ordered another drink but decided to go someplace else for a night cap. I'd visit again, but not impressed with the lack of interaction. Do better.
Purely outstanding from start to finish. We are vendors at a Bridal Show this weekend and the DJ vendor next to us recommended this place. It was absolutely worth the 25 minute drive from the Meadowlands Expo Center to Harborside. Parking is conveniently right across the street. We had the Potato Croquettes, a Little Gem Caesar salad and the Autumn Squash Salad as appetizers. They're all absolutely highly recommended. The Caesar salad dressing was very flavorful and just enough Parmesan to make it incredibly tasty. The potato croquettes were cooked perfectly and the Autumn squash salad was a fantastic compliment to the other two appetizers. I couldn't wait for the risotto to arrive, anticipating it to be exceptional and I was not disappointed. You absolutely have the save room for dessert, The chef brought us a s'mores dish that was a perfect end to a great meal. Jada our server was absolutely phenomenal. Polite, respectful and entertaining but not too pushy, each time she came over to our table, the interaction was light and fun. The atmosphere was modern and relaxed and the entire staff were very friendly. If you're looking for a place to eat in Jersey City, The District should be at the top of your list
Food: We ordered fried calamari, rissoto, and spicy rigatoni. Food is not bad but not great. I would say this is a great place to hang out but the selling point is definitely not food. Services: We were there Wednesday night and it has plenty of space open. Even though there is only one waitress for ordering, she is proactive and friendly. Other waiters brought food over fairly quick. Vibe: It fits different types of groups because the restaurant has mixed sections - sofa sections with big TVs like a sports bar, high-rise tables in the middle for the vibe, regular dining section on the side with heavy curtains around it to reduce the noise, and a nice bar section.
5-Star Review: I had an exceptional dining experience at this beautiful, clean restaurant conveniently located right across from the light rail—perfect for gatherings with friends and family. We started with the **Autumn Squash Salad**, a delightful combination of fresh Asian pears and crunchy pumpkin seeds, bursting with seasonal flavors. For the table, we shared the **Potato Croquettes** and the **Crispy Pork Brick**—both perfectly crisp on the outside and rich with savory goodness inside. Our entrées were equally impressive: the **12 oz NY Strip** was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, while the **Faroe Island Salmon** was beautifully paired with basil orzo, blistered cherry tomatoes, and a refreshing touch of lemon oil. To end on a sweet note, we indulged in the **Chef’s Selection** for dessert—a delightful surprise that perfectly capped off our meal. The cocktails were creative and refreshing; we enjoyed the **Little Tortilla Boy** and the **Twisted Twin**, both expertly crafted and full of unique flavors. Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in a warm, welcoming atmosphere!
Nice restaurant with great atmosphere. The streak is delicious and I enjoyed it. The oysters are not on the lunch menu but the waiter accommodated and served the oysters for us, which is fresh and delicious. The pumpkin crème brûlée is flavorful.
