The Townhouse of New York
Highlights, a notable leather bar in the United States, offers a blend of positive experiences and areas for improvement. Known for its attentive staff and excellent food and wine selection, it provides a warm and authentic atmosphere that has garnered respect over the years. The venue is praised for its welcoming ambiance.
However, certain aspects may dampen the overall experience. The enforcement of a dress code can be seen as limiting, and interactions with specific staff members have been reported as less than satisfactory. Addressing these concerns could elevate the establishment's reputation and ensure a more consistently enjoyable experience for all patrons.

The Townhouse of New York has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 based on over 240 reviews on Google
Visited for the first time yesterday and the night started out great. Went during happy hour and had a WONDERFUL TIME. Shout of to both bartenders in the back and the one with shorter hair in the front. Night quickly turned sour due to the bartender with the long hair. He was extremely rude to me for no reason, and denied having my phone when he was charging it. He was most toxic employee I’ve ever encountered in my entire life. He was a disaster. Extremely unprofessional - would never recommend this place while he is working. entitled and lacking in any means of substance. Should find a new job not talking to the public. NYC Nightlife deserves better than a bitter queen who adds nothing. Find another line of work.
This is NYC, having a dress code is highly unnecessary and limits patrons from attending. No one is going to plan their entire night around this one bar. Get rid of the ridiculous dress code, it’s 2026.
I don't understand those who write bad reviews for this place. Honestly, I am grateful to the owners and everyone who makes it happen. This place is warm and authentic in New York. I don't come here often, but I've known this place for over 7 years, and I have great respect for everyone 8n The Townhouse of New York!!! Thank YOU ❤️ 😊 🙏🏻
From the minute you walk in the staff is super attentive, and you’re made to feel at home. Food is excellent. Wine selection is excellent. This is a consistent and reliable go-to for a lovely dinner.
Fantastic spot for a night out. Great crowd, drinks and entertainment. A New York staple.
Very unpleasant experience on my latest visit with the staff overall. It used to be a nice welcoming piano gay bar for everyone. I've recently visited there two times, but the latest visit on a Monday late afternoon for happy hours, a hugh regret. I always enjoy to relax going to bars on first few days of the week as I never like crowds. There seemed to be an attitude issue of some staff working there perhaps only to non-frequent patrons. I couldn't ignore the subtle deliberate " left-alone" attitude treating me invisible, making me very uncomfortable indeed.
I feel privileged to be so warmly welcomed into The Townhouse. As a straight woman, I am sensitive about entering queer spaces. While my date for the evening was a gay man which made me feel okay about entering, the staff and all the other guests were welcoming and warm. The pianist that night, Alex, is sublime - talented, warm, and inviting. What a lovely way to spend an evening. Highly recommend.
