Still O.G. & Alter Ego Cocktail Club

This review is long overdue since I've been here multiple times since last year. It's best to make reservations but we've also gotten lucky and have been able to walk in when its earlier in the evening. Alter Ego is the speakeasy bar in the back. Previously, I've only tried the drinks and some of the food. This time around, we tried the food that was recommended by the bartenders and chef. Omg...why haven't we tried the other food before?! We've had the smash burger multiple times from Still OG and it's still one of our favorites. This time, we tried the bread and butter, the passard egg, and potato pave. THE MILK BREAD. Made daily in house and it was so freaking good. I devoured the bread with the butter. Passard egg had such a good flavor profile that went well together. Now the potato pave... was like a huge, crispy French fry with a delicious sauce. I want more of this as I am writing this review. Now for the drinks, I love the tequila based drinks here. Naked and famous is my favorite for the mezcal drink. I tried 2 new ones based on what I told our bartender, Fernando. Another mezcal drink that was good was Last Word. For a spicier drink, the escape artist was amazing. Shout out to our bartender Fernando and chef Andre. These two truly made our date night fun and memorable. We can't wait to go back again for more drinks and food!

Happy hours from 5pm to 7pm, $5 limited cocktails, 2 skewers for $5 except anything seafood! Excellent drinks and delicious! Same owner as Paper Plane and Miniboss though different menu! So glad it’s still new so not as crowded as PP or MB. They take reservations and I’m unsure how it works… be interested in seeing the back space and experience too!

One of the best speakeasies in the Bay Area for sure - super creative drinks, really fun glasses that complement each drink uniquely. They have a rotating menu that changes pretty frequently. We tried Annabel Lee, Kyushu coffee (hot), cantaloop- all so tasty and photogenic:) the menu covers all types of liquor, so there is something for everybody. The staff was super friendly and attentive. We also got complementary birthday appetizers on the house would definitely come back for special occasions in the future. They also have a very extensive spirit menu with a lot of foreign whiskeys too. Make a reservation early so you don’t have to wait.

This is a not-so-hidden speakeasy kinda bar located inside the Still O.G. Bar….we reserved a table for 2 on a Friday night (y recommended) You get slot for 2 hours once your booking is accepted. We got a cozy corner, the ambience is dimly lit and moderately crowded and loud. We started off with a few cocktails and potato finger food. I ordered Gin and tonic for the second round and they have good collection of Gin. Overall, good vibe and a great date night spot.

The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is so sweet! Huge shoutout to Ellias for being very helpful and shoutout to Keith for being a fun bartender! We came here for a drink after a stressful week and it was exactly what we needed. The manager is doing a great job because this place is my new favorite

Alter Ego is one of the better spots for unique libations and real conversations in downtown San Jose. Most clubs are so loud and obnoxious they are difficult to navigate for anyone with a sense of self. This place understands the fine line between cool and approachable. Ray took great care of me and my friend on a Saturday night. We tried his signature cocktail called the Proxima Vida... and it was delightful. Good smokey flavor and cool presentation. Their most impressive drink is their take on carrot cake (Buster and Babs) In a cocktail. It contains filtered curdled milk. Making weird shit functionally delicious is a fantastic bartender talent. Definitely worth a stop in if you can get a reservation. Thanks Ray for a great night.

This place is super busy. We did not have a reservation and we were a party of 6. We were told to come around 11 pm when they allow walk-ins. We went at 11 and waited like few minutes to enter together as they have capacity limit of 110 persons. The place is divided in 2 parts , alter ego, the speakeasy section is at the back. We just had drinks. All the citrus based drinks were really sour. Wouldnt recommend those. But the Slcoholoc coffee drink, the only hot drink in thd menu called kyuzhu coffee, was nicely spiked and strong and good for someone who need something hot to drink rather than iced and cold. Overall, ok place to hangout with friends if you can find place to sit.
