The Varden Hotel

Wifi is useless plus its hard to get good service in here. Weird smell in lobby/entrance, and sometimes the entrance code makes you put it in twice just because. Rooms were tiny which i was aware before booming but i was honestly shocked at just how small they were, barely enough room to sit down in bathroom

Interesting hotel, and the layout of the rooms makes a lot out of a little space. The rooms are very clean, the staff is very attentive, and the location is great. They also have modern ductless AC units for heating and cooling. I stayed here while attending a conference at the Long Beach Convention center. It's about a 10-15min walk to the convention center, and I was able to figure out where I would eat lunch by taking a leisurely walk to the convention center. The rooms are small, but for one person it was perfect and I liked how they designed the rooms not to feel small. The building is old, and because of that there are more noises than a new hotel (water flowing, floors creaking). The noise was not too loud, but a sensitive sleeper might have a problem. The breakfast in the morning is simple: yogurt, juice, coffee, pastries, and oatmeal, but the Colonial Bakery is right next door and they have fresh cooked bacon and eggs. I'm glad I stayed here, and I would stay again.

I've stayed here multiple times over the last three years because it's just a consistently good experience. The renovated rooms have character (in a good way), and they're always clean and well maintained. The staff is super friendly, the location is convenient, and the perks (breakfast, wine tasting) are icing on the cake. For the location and the price, I always check here first. I do recommend paying the extra for a higher floor if you like a quieter room, as you can hear your upstairs neighbor walking around otherwise.

Nice location very close to a lot of restaurants. Easy walking distance to a lot of downtown Long Beach. Rooms are small and definitely not for a family, but for one or one along with a significant other, it is nice. People were very friendly and helpful. The only thing I thought they could improve was the Continental breakfast offering. The coffee was great, but much of the pastry items were stale. However, there is a great bakery only 2 doors away... I would definitely stay again.

The Varden is a nice boutique hotel, not one of those monolith hotels we are used to. The rooms are small, yes small. My childhood bedroom was bigger, which was small. They makeup with the small rooms and bathrooms, with great friendly service... want a slightly earlier checking time... no worries.. want a slightly later checkout time.. no worries.. want some water bottles (for free) no problem. Everyone is super friendly and cordial. The continental breakfast was light but good, with milk/oj/muffins/cereal/oatmeal/fruit etc. I would stay again for the service.. but wouldn't mind at least a queen size bed

I stayed here for 3 nights when in town for Business. I was definitely very pleased with everything about the hotel. Parking was right next to the building, and spots were always available. The room was small but very nice and seemed clean. It was a non-issue for me, but if you have issues with stairs, there is no elevator. All of the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout my entire stay. Water, snacks, fruit, coffee, tea, etc. were pretty much always available for free, and they do offer a free continental breakfast and a free evening wine tasting. I would definitely come back if I stay in the area again.

Not big rooms, clean, but old, lots of history and character. Staff is great, breakfast is good, and everything you could ask for within walking distance. I'd definitely stay here again!
