JHU Comic Books (Formerly of Jim Hanley's Universe)

I've been coming to this shop for years. In the heart of of New Dorp, surrounded by great restaurants and right next to one of the best libraries on the island, this shop always has the newest comics in stock. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. They are also big supporters of local artists, you can even find a local creators section in the shop. A great spot for fans young and old!

Once a shop in the Staten Island Mall prior to the JC Penny expansion, the shop located on New Dorp Lane ever since, is a kingdom of comic book shops. Very impressive selections of comics and books with a small line of toys related to comics and animation. It's one of the few kld-school comic book shops around that are left in the borough.

Really nice I come here a lot even with friends, staff are so kind and always have what I’m looking for. I’m constantly offered help by people, the store is not very loud and in my opinion just right.

We have been loyal customers of this comic book store for many years, ever since we were kids. It’s been a place we’ve loved visiting, and now we bring our own children, who are huge fans of comics. However, during our most recent visit, we were deeply disappointed and shocked to see a prominent display of books at the front counter that push Palestinian propaganda. After flipping through these books, it was clear they were filled with misinformation and a distorted version of reality. What’s even more troubling is that there were no books offering a balanced perspective or representing the Israeli side of the story. It’s incredibly upsetting to see this kind of material being promoted in a place we once trusted, especially in a way that could influence and mislead children. We will not be returning to this store, and neither will our friends or family. It’s unacceptable for a local comic book store to push such biased and harmful content onto its customers, especially kids.

Ordered comics online to be shipped to Alabama. The shipping price was extremely reasonable. I am so glad they had the books I was missing and they packaged them with so much care!! I was so impressed, they made it all the way in perfect condition and it’s been raining all week. Very grateful!

This place is the absolute best! The atmosphere is always chill and welcoming. I love bringing my kids here. See you guys on Wednesday for new books.

I love this comic store it is such a little gem on New Dorp Lane. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the prices and selection are great. Make sure to check it out when you’re in the neighborhood.
