We enjoyed our visit here. The water/beach area is muddy and kind of gross, but it’s a river so… we definitely would rather go to a cleaner part of the river, but this spot isn’t bad for a little day trip. You are technically not supposed to swim/wade, but there were several people on the water, with canopies and coolers set up on the beach.

this county park runs into the adjacent northwest part ot Castlewood State park, and contains bottom lands with a sea of emerald green grass, often without underbrush, below a canopy of sycamores and other trees. In the first week of May this sea of 3 foot grass is punctuated by islands of brilliant yellow butterweed. The trails are extensive, but can be muddy after rain, and crossing the many small creeks can be difficult - there are paths around those areas, but are not always so marked. I recommend taking the path closest to the railroad tracks and then looping around by the river path under those circumstance.

One of my favorite walking areas nearby. Usually a fairly quiet walk along the river, there's a rocky beach when it's not flooded. No swimming allowed. The Al Foster (gravel trail) is a nice long mostly straight path along the river through the woods. There's some old railways and bridges and it connects to other trails like the Rock Hollow Trail. There's also a small sandy/dirt loop on the left side of the parking area that's nice also, less trafficked

Great place close to st louis to get some "beach" time. It is on the meramec River so you need to be careful with the current, you will be fine with children if you stay close to the rivers edge. There is one small parking lot that could get full really fast. We will definitely be back!

Detoured through here while riding the Al Foster trail. It hasn’t rained in a couple days but the trail still had several very must spots. One was quite terrible and took us several minutes to maneuver past, as it crossed the creek and become quite slick and steep.

Always a nice spot to go, beach usually isnt too busy. Great to take your pups just be mindful of the occasional piece of broken glass, cans or old fishing hooks - usually near the grass.

Relax by the river or hike the adjoining trails. The beach is large when the river level is normal. Watch the trains pass.
