Positive: The accommodations that came with the hotel made it worth the cost. Negative: All the staff were amazing but had one rude staff member during check out. That?s the only negative experience of the whole stay
The Nines is in a great location by Pioneer Square. It is easy to walk to areas downtown or even across the river to the Eastside. The service was good and the staff is helpful and quick to address your needs. The room was spacious and clean, and we appreciated the in-room coffemaker and bottled water. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant, The Urban Farmer, and had the special of the day - Pork shank hash which was delicious. It was so flavorful and the portion was very large and reasonably priced. Our server was friendly and gave us some tips on things to do in Portland. Special kudos to the overnight bellman (sorry, didn't get his name). We had an early flight home and my husband went to pick up the car from the parking garage at 3:30am and I waited for him. The bellman was very helpful, looking up information on his computer to assist us, and showed a genuine concern. A gentleman was upset about not getting the right food order from Uber Eats (at 3:30am), and the bellman remained calm and professional throughout the entire ordeal. He seems to go above and beyond for the people staying at The Nines. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will be back.
We went to the Departure with our friends right after their wedding ceremony to celebrate! They were guests at the hotel. The food was good, the service was top-notch! Janet, our server, was knowledgeable about the menu, and a super fun person. She even presented us with toasts at the end~ champagne for our newlyweds, and something non-alcoholic and DELICIOUS for the two of us who don't drink (I love that she clocked that, she's a total pro and we appreciated that immensely!).
I had a quick stay at the Nines after Thanksgiving. Our experience was truly amazing. I don’t know what to rave about the most….the friendly and accommodating staff, beautiful Christmas decor, quality rooms, or the phenomenal food! We arrived to a special welcome setup inside our room. Special "Thanks!" to Amina and Juan for the handwritten card. The beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed a delightful meal at the Urban Farmer Steakhouse. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious: oysters, steak, beet salad, mashed potatoes, and gelato. I can’t wait to come back!!! Many thanks, Jen Steiner
TLDR: Cruz, the concierge at The Nines Hotel, provided exceptional, personalized service that transformed our family stay into something truly magical during a difficult time in our lives. Our recent stay at The Nines Hotel in Portland was made absolutely extraordinary by Cruz, the concierge who went above and beyond in every possible way. From the moment we booked, Cruz took the time to understand what our family needed and curated an experience that exceeded all expectations. Cruz's pre-arrival planning was remarkable. She personally researched and recommended kid-friendly activities perfectly suited for our two boys (ages 5 and 2), including the Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, Powell's Books, OMSI, the Aerial Tram, Forest Park hiking trails, Portland Aquarium, and the Farmer's Market. Every suggestion was thoughtful and spot-on for our family. Her attention to detail was impressive. She arranged an in-room Swedish massage for my wife, provided dining recommendations like Mother's Bistro and Grassa (checking specifically that Departure Restaurant would accommodate our young children), and even customized our welcome amenities with local snacks, remembering that our boys don't like chocolate. But what truly set Cruz apart was her genuine care. During a particularly challenging period for our family, this trip was our chance to decompress and create positive memories. Cruz understood this and made it her mission to ensure we had an unforgettable experience. The teddy bear she gifted our son became an instant treasure—he still carries it everywhere to this day. Cruz didn't just provide concierge service; she created moments of joy and relief when we needed them most. Her warmth, professionalism, and dedication to going the extra mile made our stay at The Nines truly special. We cannot recommend her highly enough.
My wife and I decided to switch things up for a mini birthday and early Valentine's getaway, so we stayed at The Nines for a few nights. We typically stay at a hotel just a few blocks away, but this time we went for something different – a Marriott! Now, the one downside is parking. It’s valet only at $67 a night with in-and-out privileges. It's convenient, but a bit pricey and, honestly, the process does take some time (plus tips). If you don’t need the in-and-out feature, there are nearby lots that are half the price. We walked (or Ubered) around, so we opted for a lot about a block and a half away. Just a heads-up – be mindful of road closures and one-way streets in the area! But the positives? So many! The staff was super friendly, and Cruz, the concierge, was a star. I reached out to her ahead of time, and she arranged for flowers from a local shop to be waiting in the room, plus a small birthday cake for my wife (huge hit!). The front desk staff was equally welcoming, with Clint Kuper going above and beyond to be helpful. We spent some time in the hotel’s cozy living room area before our room was ready, enjoying drinks during happy hour. Speaking of the room, it was lovely! We had a corner room with views of Pioneer Square and the Courthouse (classic downtown vibes). The bathroom was huge, with plush towels, two robes, and slippers – perfect for a relaxing stay. The TV had limited channels, but we didn’t come for the TV anyway. Just a heads-up on the mini bar – everything’s sensor-activated, so don’t accidentally brush up against anything unless you’re ready to buy it! The bed was good, great mattress, decent pillows, comfortable, and we slept well. We also dined at Urban Farmer for both breakfast and dinner. The English muffins at breakfast and the cornbread at dinner were absolute winners. The rest of the food was a bit hit-or-miss, but overall, we’d definitely eat there again. My wife absolutely loved the hotel, and we’re already planning a 3-day weekend stay this spring! Highly recommend! 😊
From getting a perfect 5 stars review to a 4 stars in 5 minutes. I woke up on the last morning of our stay after spending 3 wonderful nights at The Nines Hotel just to find out that they charged my room money for things we didn’t get. I mean it’s not a big deal and it’s not about the money, but if you need to check your room charges daily and make sure no one is "screwing you", you are not enjoying your stay and you can’t trust the hotel. Also they made a charge and a credit that did not belong to me, why do you add it to my bill and send it to me. It just raised more questions and insecurity regarding the way they present the final bill. Imagine you did 2 transactions and you get a bill with a bunch of things on it, you get confused and you need to go line by line with the front desk instead of having a wonderful day. A bunch of snack charges because we touched the bags, well I have a couple of issues with that: 1. I made sure I’m putting something on the snacks so no one touches it but me, and no one did. 2. The 3 items I lifted to see what they are did not appear in the charge, but others did. So the all "it has a sensor that automatically charges you sounds sketchy". If your tech doesn’t work properly don’t use it to automatically charge people. 3. Why do you put a sensor on snacks, if I want to check what is in the bag how do I do that?! It’s all dark bags that you need to lift to see what they are. It’s not to make sure we don’t open and buy a new ones in the store because it’s custom bags with the hotel logo. Bottom line, when I’m in vacation I don’t want to fight over did I buy or not buy something and to make sure I’m not being scammed by the hotel that has the ability to charge me whatever amount.
