Stayed for a long winter weekend, had a comfortable and quiet room on the first floor at the back of the house. It's important to understand the details of this place, so do read the fine print on their website. It suited our tastes well. We liked the breakfast arrangement overall, except that the coffee was weak (that's the one star off). Parking was mildly inconvenient. There are two fine breweries within a block. Good value for the price, book ahead.
Traveling alone to see friends in Portland for a few days, I did not want or need an Airbnb all to myself, nor did I want to stay in a large hotel. The Bluebird Guesthouse was the perfect solution. Enjoyed a cozy stay in the first-floor Gabriel Garcia Marquez room. Comfortable room with a private bath, with its own heating/thermostat, which was very handy as it was very chilly when I was there. Nice common areas and generously stocked kitchen with everything one needs for a simple breakfast. Great location. The place was very quiet and peaceful despite being on a lively street. A great option for a solo traveler.
Wonderful three night stay at bluebird guest house! This house has been impeccably remodeled, holding true to its original design while feeling clean and modern at the same time. Really enjoyed the vibe and cleanliness, as well as the amazing self-serve breakfast. A+ all the way around.
I am pretty upset with this inn. I booked 6 rooms for my elderly family that are visiting from Louisiana for my wedding. The following day all rooms were cancelled due a policy that doesn't let people book more than two rooms to a group. I understand having problems with rowdy groups, but these are elderly people that I need to have close to my house. This is the only hotel in the area that isn't a motel 6. An Airbnb is out of the question because my family wants to have their own rooms with their own bathrooms. When asked if I could book the rooms individually under every person's name, i was told that my family would be asked to leave upon arrival. I had planned to spend $4,500. This is a ridiculous policy and isn't clear on booking.com (which allowed me to book the rooms all at once). When I called to clarify and ask for an exception (from chris), iI was promptly hung up on. I was bummed, but in no way was I being aggressive or unprofessional. These rules are incredibly discriminatory.
Perfect on all counts for location, cleanliness and charm (loved the Arts & Crafts details throughout). The choices for the continental breakfast and snacks were generous. Now that we have family in the area, we look forward to staying again as we didn't begin to exhaust all the possibilities of the neighborhood. Special shout out and thanks to the hosts for quickly arranging to mail the small items we'd forgotten in the room.
The Bluebird is a terrific find! It’s a big old house with tremendous charm and character. We had our own "private" bathroom and shower, which was totally true, but we had to chuckle in that it was "down the hall" from our room. We didn’t care, but I could see that wouldn’t be for everyone. The hotel provided some comfy bathrobes for our use. The room was quiet, the AC worked great. The "help yourself" kitchen had loads of teas, great coffee, snacks, and noshies for breakfast. Conveniently located for our needs. A real gem.
We were excited to book this guest house based on a recommendation from a local and reserved multiple rooms well in advance for our group trip. Over two months after booking—and after receiving several confirmations from the guest house—our reservation was unexpectedly canceled. The reason given was an unpublished policy that restricts single groups from booking multiple rooms. This cancellation left us scrambling to find alternative accommodations just a month before our planned stay. It's incredibly frustrating to have a reservation confirmed, only to have it canceled months later due to a policy that was never communicated. I hope the guest house revisits this practice and improves transparency for future guests. Our experience was disappointing, and I hope others are treated with more consideration.
