Customer Reviews
Idle Hour has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 based on over 1309 reviews on Google
Service 5/5 our server was very sweet and kept checking on us. Ambiance 5/5 super fun vibe, love the out back/ out side and the random pipe smoking dog. Food 2-5 based on other reviews I wanted it to be better than bar food but it’s straight up have something to eat while you are drinking. Idle burger- dry and lacked flavor / seasoning Cheesesteak- please change the name. This is not a cheesesteak - this is a dry steak sandwich that has barely any cheese on it with a lot of dry bread. Fish tacos- fine Portobello steak fries- taste like dirt weird texture. Flatbread- is pizza from high school cafeteria Pretzel was the best- although was it really a homeboy pretzel? It’s not served with the amount of cheese sauce show in the photo and it’s not cheese sauce it’s like rotel dip. Now the worst part is how you order and pay for food on your phone …. So even if you want an appetizer or decide you want more sooner or later it’s all through your phone and a tip is asked for each time. We had 3 phones and each different levels of difficulty in submitting orders. It’s is fun and cute and I would possibly come back it’s just somewhere I know what to expect now. Parking is difficult.
We went for their Sunday brunch. My only negative is be sure to check beforehand their Sunday events. We went when it was a dog Christmas. The animals were all beautiful. But we weren't prepared. Lol. Still food, service and drinks were very good.
do not come here for food unless it is absolutely necessary and i'm talking a life or death scenario been here a few times for a quick meal and safe to say that the food is terrible and you will be better off making frozen fish sticks at home (i suspect fish and chips is actually just gordon's frozen fish) anyway, food aside drinks are fantastic here. love that they have a buddy system and my must order is the PB and J
Mark was extremely helpful when another venue fell through for my birthday celebration. He very kindly reserved the back room (which happens to be shaped like a bulldog) for my friends and I. The signature cocktails were delicious (try the De La Tierra) and the food was great. Can't say enough good things about them, they went above and beyond without me even asking. Highly recommend
I am a frequent guest at idle hour and consistently appreciate the amazing atmosphere and exceptional service provided by all of the staff/team. The team delivers a wonderful experience each visit, which is why I love to continue to return. During my most recent visit, I noticed a recurring issue with the beer quality. Each of the four different beers I ordered were warm and overly foamy. On the other hand the cocktails that we had were great. Given how amazing the service and environment are, idle hour is great. Addressing the beer temperature and quality would make this venue fully deserving of a five-star rating.
That portobello mushroom ‘fries’ are sooooo good! Get it! 3-6pm they have happy hour menu that carries $7 bites and $7 cocktail. The $7 pizza is decent. Make a Mule is
Have you ever wanted to eat brunch inside a giant barrel? Do you enjoy eating eggs and day drinking under the watchful scrutiny of an enormous bulldog who is smoking a pipe but somehow still managed to look absolutely SCANDALIZED about your life choices? Do your life choices include Bottomless Drag Brunch with Lauren Banall? Well, them have I got the place for you? As the decor and website will be quick to inform you, Idle Hour is a relic of the early Los Angeles car culture of the post-war era, and is worth the trip for the novelty alone. The staff and management are delightfully friendly and welcoming. There is a patio space in both the front (sunny, no bulldog) and in back (shady, bulldog). If you go there for Drag Brunch, like we did, (highly recommend) you'll get to enjoy the back patio. In truth, my memory of the food is overshadowed by the entertainment, because it's hard to focus on both the subtleties of eggs shakshuka when trying to enthusiastically fling one dollar bills at equally enthusiastic purveyors of fabulousness, but I recall enjoying it. Also enjoyed a Drunken Elephant Theory, which is a cocktail involving coffee and a skewered luxardo cherry. My companion had a spicy margarita, which was also good but doesn't pair well with a drunken elephant. The entertainment was, unsurprisingly, the star of the show. Four fabulous lip syncing and dancing queens of drag in multiple wonderful lewks, with comfortable levels of audience engagement, even for someone like me who mostly just prefers to smile and clap along like Snow White with her forest friends. Bucket list item accomplished. Would go again, would recommend to a friend. My only criticism would be the sound level and acoustics: music would have been painfully loud without earplugs. Partly, this is a factor of the building itself being all hard surfaces: even once the music was done and I'd taken the earplugs out it was difficult to hear my companion directly across from me due to echoes from other tables. So, if you're sensitive to noise or have sound processing issues, plan to bring and wear earplugs for better enjoyment.
