I was really excited to visit this book store. I drove 1 hour and 40 minutes to check out an author they were apart of hosting as well. Upon entering the store you are forced to wear a mask, which i complied. The selection of books was amazing where they represent love to all people except one. This was what broke my heart. A book store promoting only love to Palestine with a flag and literature but no love towards Jewish people. As a Jewish American I was horrified to see the shrine they had posted. Why not show love to all people? Im an American too. I was so uncomfortable I did not attend the author event that I registered for because I cant be around people that hate others.
This place is amazing. Definitely one of the best bookstores I’ve ever been to. They have really good books as well as other informative products for social justice and advocacy, allowing increased access to understanding layers and nuances to everything that we need to learn about within this contemporary society today. They have flags, notebooks, stickers, cards and many more. Next time I visit Madison I will definitely go to A Room of One’s Own again, highly recommend!
I enjoyed the vast selection of books of all genres and the obvious involvement in community and social justice. This book store is safe for all and was a great place to find books, merch, and information on community action and involvement.
Absolutely beautiful and cozy place! They make you feel seen and right at home and have such an enormous selection of books that I was just incredulous! They have a fair selection of Palestinian books and such wonderfully organized shelves. I'll definitely be back and cannot wait to see what they have when we come back!
This bookstore is absolutely incredible. The inventory is a beautifully curated selection of diverse representation. The store is full of themed displays, hand written recommendations, and small delights. I loved the zine selection and teared up several times over some of the trans representation. I will absolutely be visiting every year when I come out from California.
Excellent indie bookstore with large selection. If you can't find a book here you weren't looking.
I really appreciate all the social justice books here, HOWEVER I could not find one book about animal rights. I guess they're disregarded? Did you know that animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate change? (a huge contributor to deforestation, water pollution, biodiversity loss, and more) Did you know when people eat meat & dairy, 99% comes from factory farms which are notorious for exploiting, abusing, neglecting, and letting farm animals suffer from the day they're bred into existence to the day they are murdered? You know these animals have feelings right? They are sentient, so they feel pain, they scream, and are in constant fear, and they suffer endlessly when all they want to do is live like the rest of us. Did you know the dairy and meat industries are very corrupt and cause so much harm to the environment, the animals, and even the workers there? VERY disappointing not seeing ONE book about animals rights or veganism. This store has every book you can think of about social justice just not about animal rights. What a huge disappointment. Will not be supporting this bookstore.
