USS SLATER

My son and I had a fantastic tour given by Art who is a very informative and enthusiastic guide. It was amazing to see a war ship so well cared for and preserved. Art shared an abundance of insight into the working of the ship and the men who served on it. He provided information you don't read about in books such as why the cook may ask if you are right or left handed during rough weather or why the officers preferred the top bunks. My son will be talking about the tour for a very long time. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

This has been something I've wanted to experience for a while. While I was not able to go aboard. I did really appreciate the staff they were very helpful and upfront with answering my questions about the accessibility of the ship. I could of gotten aboard with my wheelchair but I would not have been able to do much more than just that. The visitor center & gift shop are completely accessible. And they have a very nice observation deck with interpretive signage. I could fully see every part of the ship. I couldn't really get a good photo of the USS Slater in it's entirety. 🫡🇺🇸

Our tour guide was amazing! If you are ever in Albany and love history and Naval vessels, definitely stop by. All the tour fees go to sustain the vessel. Informative tour - thoroughly enjoyed!

While I did not get a chance to tour. It was fun to get a chance to finally see the ship from the outside. Big thanks to New Jersey's Ryan Szimanski efforts on YouTube that made me aware of this and many other very cool ships! Please feel free to use these pictures for promotion.

John was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable about the history of the ship, many technical details, and had plenty of stories of the lives of crew members. We enjoyed hearing so much about the ship as we walked through every available room. If you are interested in the history of the Navy or of World War 2, this is a great place to see.

This was a great experience. My husband is a big history buff and he loved it. My kids 9, 3 and 1 did well with it, the two older even enjoyed it, though it may not be every kids cup of tea. My husband wants to go back to do a longer tour when our oldest is able to go along. The tour guide was very informative, really cool piece of reserved U.S. history.

A fantastically well preserved WWII destroyer escort (last of her kind anywhere) with a great volunteer staff who provide excellent guided tours. Plenty of parking, and lots to see aboard this gem on the Albany waterfront 😀
