Woman's Club of Albany

I had a very disappointing experience with the Woman’s Club of Albany located at 725 Madison Ave in Albany, NY. When I inquired about renting the space, I was told that the air conditioner was broken and that the facility was not available. However, I later learned that they were willing to rent the space to someone else on the very same day I had requested. Based on the interaction, I felt racially profiled because of my name. The explanation I was given did not seem truthful, and the inconsistency left me feeling discriminated against and unwelcome. Transparency and fairness are extremely important when dealing with the public, and unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I hope the organization reflects on its practices and ensures equal treatment for everyone moving forward.

Literacy volunteers is again looking forward to teaching English and sewing to immigrants At The Womans Club. For years now the club has welcomed our ladies, Christian, Hindu, and Muslim, to a warm and inviting place that allows our students to feel safe and to relax into learning. Our classes are filled with the sound of many different languages, conversation, and much laughter. We are truly grateful to the club for the Use of this very special place!

I hosted a 35 person bridal shower luncheon here. Easy to access, had everything we needed but still easy to make this place our own. Perfect for either casual or formal events!

I had my cultural bridal shower here. As a Muslim woman, I found Mary’s passive-aggressive tone incredibly disrespectful. Every other woman I worked with was truly amazing, kind, professional, and a pleasure to be around. I just wish Mary Helen had shown the same level of respect and care. I put her behavior aside to enjoy my day, but what upset me most was finding out afterward that she used photos from my event to promote the venue and then spoke negatively about my family and me, even though we left everything clean and received our full security deposit back. I chose this venue because I believed my payment would support a meaningful cause. But as a women’s club, I hoped there would be more openness to supporting and embracing women from all backgrounds.

Thank you for everything you do, WCA. You are appreciated. It's a historic social club for women. They have sisterhood- like events. It's for a girl's girl and a supportive environment for women. The membership is around 50 or so dollars a year. The age ranges vary, but if you are looking for a community if women who may have attended a sister school or are looking for women centered social events, it's wonderful. You'll meet many intellectual and career oriented women. It's lovely. Everyone is lovely. They also have community based events that support women and children in the geographical area.

We held our small wedding here. The venue is perfect for gatherings of ~50 people in non-pandemic times, and the upstairs ballroom is spacious enough to host ~30 with ample social distancing space. The women who operate the club and maintain the building are great people and were so helpful with everything. On top of that, the rental price is reasonable, and you know that every dollar goes to maintaining a beautiful building for a great group of women. We know that our family was impressed, and we think more people should know about this hidden gem in Albany.

Went to a "Tulip Tea" We were served several different flavors of tea, tea sandwiches and desserts. A painted champagne glass was given for us to keep. Pleasant way to spend the afternoon.
