The Drag

As an alumni of The University of Texas at Austin, I have to say that The Drag is an iconic area on UT's 40 Acres! The University of Texas at Austin is so special and this space that is situated on Guadalupe Street has a little bit of everything (from spaces to grab a bite, do a little shopping, or collaborate with peers & friends). Per Do512's website, "Located (loosely) between 21st and 25th Street on Guadalupe, this strip is packed with dive bars, restaurants, live music, and vintage shopping spots. Read below to explore what you can see and do in one of Austin's oldest districts." I highly recommend visiting this area when you're on campus at UT Austin!

It's a nice spot with historical story. This place used to be the center spot of hang out for the "drag rats" who where homeless youngsters dressed in raggedy punk rock style clothes. This place is now used for the Artist's Market which are individual artisans selling their awesome works, from jewelry to bags, and other accessories. There are beautiful murals there painted by austinite artists, as well as some graffitis on the walls. The main entrance to the University of Texas is right across from it. This spot is like a little park, unofficially, and is a nice spot to visit and take some pictures.

Awesome place to find the "original" Austin. Take your time and look at the murals. Be sure to stop by on the weekends for the artists market!!! Support local businesses and Keep Austin Weird!!
