Wells Street Bridge

My mom, dad and I have taken the Chicago Transit Authority or CTA pass this bridge and it is part of the loop. The bridge is a bascule bridge. The Wells Street Bridge in Chicago has a history dating back to 1841, with its current double-decked bascule bridge opening in 1922. Previous crossings included floating and swing bridges, and the upper deck was added in 1896 to accommodate the Northwestern Elevated Railroad. The bridge was rehabilitated in 2012–2013, including cleaning structural steel and replacing walkways and mechanical systems.

River cruising... What a beautiful experience. Who would have thought there was a building that looks like a hot pocket... Made me hungry 😋

After attending the One of a Kind Gift Show in Merchandise Mart, I stopped on the bridge to watch the video displays that were protected onto the exterior of Merchandise Mart. There were several people, adults and children, sitting on the Riverwalk and watching the display. It was cool to see so many people take time to sit and watch art, instead of rushing by.

Hey, didn't there used to be a pay phone on this thing? Yeah, I remember. Called my lawyer from here. Told him I was in St. Louis. Ha! Big laughs! Yeah! He was putz. Anyway. The bell on the Wells Street Bridge! Yep! Ah! Oh yeah! Chicago's got an El! And there' nuttin' more Chicago than the sound of that bell. Except, of course, the group Chicago. "Saturday In The Park"! Oh, and Earth, Wind & Fire. "September! Only blue talk and love. Remembah..." Da Cubbies. Da Bears. Da Tunes!
