I love this little hole in the wall place! The DJs are awesome....many are local but others are from all over the world. When I'm not able to be there I love tuning in online to WILMA UNDERGROUND. The bartenders are always friendly and pour a good drink! I love the leather and fetish nights. The bootblack, Scotty, is very good....he will take good care of your leather! The weekends are fun, but the happy hours are great, too! The patio is a cozy place to meet locals or share a good cigar and cocktail. Checkout the events going on each day of the week...... And, don't forget Pig Dance!!!!
A shocking throwback and almost a modern time capsule—think Cruising meets the best parts of American Horror Story: NYC. The staff is incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and the entire complex feels secure and well-managed. The patrons were friendly and open—everyone seemed like friends. While it’s not my usual scene, it was definitely a fun and unique experience, and worth checking out now and then for something different!
Ramrod is an absolute institution in Fort Lauderdale and stays true to its roots for a reason. It is more than just a bar; it is a home away from home where the energy is consistently right. The staff are true professionals who take incredible care of you, and the atmosphere—from the incredible DJs rocking out amazing music to the patio—sets the perfect tone for the night. Whether you are a regular or just visiting, this is the standard for a genuine, high-quality experience. 5 stars.
The Ramrod has always been my favorite bar in Fort Lauderdale. Great staff, perfect atmosphere, and always great music. The DJs play well-curated sets that always get the mood right for the night. I’ve never been to the rod and had a bad time, and for me the music is a HUGE part of it. The Ramrod is an amazing place for your classic leather, cigar, and old school bar and dance experience. It’s always going to be a go to for me, especially for the Monday Night Cigar Socials, and the constant crew of resident DJs, and guest DJs that are chosen to carry the vibes throughout the night.
New Year's eve night was a crap show! Met two other couples there at 10:00 with the intention of spending the evening. We all left after one hour and here's why. Front entrance/outside covered area smelled strongly of rotting garbage/sour milk. No functioning restrooms; no where to pee, pop or wash your hands. Very bright inside which is not a good thing for the Ramrod which fosters a more frisky environment. A couple people shooting pool in an area that should of had the lights turned down. Perimeter seating all be used as beer storage. Horrible DJ's that should be fired! Playing unidentifiable music and nobody would dance to. No entertainment/go-go's/dancers... We like the hard working/friendly bar staff but at some point everyone needs to be held accountable for this ridiculously bad experience.
Fort Lauderdale’s iconic institution—zero pretension. The drinks are strong, and the crowd is welcoming whether you’re leathered up, or just curious. It’s not a glossy nightclub—it’s authentic, and full of character. Come for the music, stay for the community, and leave with a great story (or two) Definitely not your average Wilton Drive stop.
So here is the deal. Ramrod is a hidden gem right down the street from the other gay bars. Technically still on Wilton Drive. It is one of the older gay bars and it has stood the test of time. It offers something different when you need an escape from the disco. I enjoy all the bars in Wilton Manors but sometimes I need a different vibe and Ramrod provides just that. It is legendary locally for their house music and talented resident DJs. Sometimes when everything else feels the same and predictable, you just need something different. They are also one of the few bars that are very good about posting their DJ calendar schedule well in advance so you can see exactly who is playing. Resident DJs like Herbie James, Nicotene, Bryan Hukill and Ronnie Minutella to name a few. I know they also have resident DJs during the week but I am only familiar with the weekend music. All bring something to the table and offer something different. I think sometimes Wilton Manors gets stereotyped as a disco town and DJs ram that down your throat. Even when they bring in guest DJs at the other bars, they don’t know what to play and they just think the crowd wants to hear disco and 80’s and 90’s pop so that’s what they play. You will never hear disco at Ramrod. It’s gritty and edgy the way gay bars used to be. One thing I will say about the DJs at Ramrod is at least they are passionate about their music. They are there behind the deck because that is where they want to be and that is what they want to do. A lot of tourists don’t experience this when visiting the city. Local tip: If you like to dance, do not set your drink down or on the bar because the bar back will take it immediately and dump it out. If there are more than five people dancing, you have to choose whether to hold it and let them spill it all over the place or else don’t drink. It gets expensive replacing full drinks they throw out. There is a time and place for everything. Enjoy.
