Best place to drive on beach, the jetty you can discover ocean life and shells! Check the tides before you go, low tide is best! Long stretch of beach from jetty to bird sanctuary that overlooks the inlet and Little Talbot Island
Hi everyone. I want to tell you about this park, which is a swimming beach where you can drive right in for only $5!!! It's partly a nature reserve (you can see turtles living in their natural habitat and freely roaming the roads), and it has natural sand dunes (where rare birds nest!), and it's a park for relaxing in a motorhome for a week or a weekend, and a place for surfing and kitesurfing, a family beach for swimming with small children, and some people even come here to take photos and celebrate their wedding!
Huguenot Memorial Park is a serene and thoughtfully maintained waterfront park, a space that offers both natural beauty and historical significance. The park provides lovely open areas and scenic views, fishing, camping, making it a great spot for peaceful walks, quiet reflection, or simply enjoying the outdoors. The memorial elements add meaningful context and make the visit educational as well as relaxing. The grounds are generally clean and well cared for, and the atmosphere is calm and respectful. While a few more benches, shaded areas, or updated informational signs would enhance the experience, it is still a wonderful place to visit. Overall, it’s a tranquil park that’s well worth spending time at, especially for those who appreciate history and scenic surroundings.
I absolutely love Huguenot! I've been going here for decades & it has changed over the years but still a wonderful beach experience as well as an awesome place to see many types of birds! And the sunsets are spectacular over the river as are the sunrises over the ocean.
Higuenot Memorial Park was such an interesting visit. As I entered the park entrance kiosk to pay the $5 fee, a dozen cyclists were exiting in two colorful rows. A helicopter was repeatedly flying the same repetitive course above the park in perfect, wide open blue skies. Butterflies were flitting through the flowers growing on the fenced, sand dunes. Choppy, royal blue water was sloshing against the shore of the St. John River and the old, dilapidated road running along the Park's bank. This side of the park offers cool views of the naval station across the water. There is plenty of activity due to tug boats, barges and boats in general (and the helicopter that flew by every few minutes. There are nice restrooms, sandy campgrounds with scattered palm trees. The calm, sandy family beach on the opposite side of the park allows vehicles to drive alo g the beach out to the point where the St. John River meets the Atlantic Ocean. I saw plenty of fishermen and several RV campers. It was VERY windy to the point my eyes watered. The playground was so cool, featuring things I've never even seen. I did try out the long "rope-looking" swing that swings side to side, rather than front to back. My visit was action packed, even though I went alone! Great random stop!
At the end of the St. John's river is the Huguenot Memorial Park and Campground. It's a large sprawling area that wraps around the coast and offers endless views of St. George's sound, the inlet, and the ocean. Entry fee is five dollars, there are reserve sites for camping available. It's not a bad place to watch the boat traffic coming up the river including some massive Cargo ships and cruise lines. It can be more pleasant during weekdays when car traffic is relatively light. It does get fairly packed, especially on hot weekends. There is an almost permanent breeze, sometimes even strong winds day in and day out. The only trees are palm trees and various small species including scrub Oaks. Shade is almost nonexistent so be aware. It can be dicey to maneuver the area during high tides as sometimes the ocean washes out the road access. All in all, pleasant place but more for a younger energetic crowd that enjoys swimming, kite boarding, and for fisherman
We truly enjoyed our family outing here this Saturday. It wasn’t packed, we drove onto the beach, went fishing, & let the kids swim. The water was calm & relaxing! Very peaceful atmosphere. We caught a flounder, sheep head, a red and a perch. We caught & released today. Sizes were too small. Definitely recommend this place!
