This was our first time going to the port. It was identified well as far as signage for the drive in. There was ample room for parking. There is a daily charge which worked out to be $85 for 6 days. They do have a discount for disabled veterans.
Went to Bahamas and to see our ship docked there was amazing sight. Everything went smoothly.
Compared to other terminals Jaxport is small. Don't let that fool you, it is very efficient and will move a lot of people fast. I have two issues though, it is a warm weather port and it needs an elevator. The day of embarking the temps were in the 30s with a stiff wind. The only way to gain access to the ship is to walk up the ramps that are open to the weather. And yep it is cold. Also anyone that is elderly, disabled, will need to be pushed up the ramp in a wheel chair. The day of disembarking the temps were in the 20s with the wind blowing 25+. 3/4 the way down the ramp, the cold wind was unbearable. Now, with Jaxport being up the river, makes for some very nice scenery of the bridge and the NAS.
Parking was easy and cheap. We flew threw customs. Embankment was fast and disembarkment was even easier.
Max or cruise terminal was Super easy / parking was really really easy / s lol bigger than a Walmart parking lot but tons of room / several guys on big golf carts to help people get up to the entrance / even with no golf cart ride it’s a 4 or 5 minute walk! Really a great experience!!
Could not believe that after returning from a 12 day cruise, the only priority the terminal staff had was to kick people out of the only building around into 28 degree weather with the wind chill 18 degrees. The majority of the people were elderly and ill prepared for a freeze that hasn't hit the area for many years. I only had 1 coat to offer people in wheelchairs who had none. I don't know know why the staff there could not provide some shelter under the extreme circumstances. It was extremely careless and could of caused urgent medical issues with many people there. The only thing worse than these conditions is to have a guy with a microphone walking around broadcasting to everyone while standing in front of disabled elderly, like he is talking in 3rd person, that you can't stay in the building you must leave the building over and over. It's a shame to have such a nice embarkation and disembarkation process to be ruined by such disregard for peoples welfare.
I have to say not one or 2 but at least 3 of the welcoming staff when you get to the port need some retraining in customer appreciation and courtesy. The older long grey haired short lady was rude and intolerant when we arrived to go on our cruise and when we got back and so comfortable in her negative attitude I bet she has no idea who I am to say anything negative towards me. I just observed her interaction not only with my disabled brother and myself but with other cruise people just trying to navigate the cruise experience without rudeness as the start and or end to our or their trip. As a customer service professional I was saddened to see the flagrant rudeness from not only her but another lady as well that was hollering for everyone to have their passports in hand upon the last little area before showing them. She heard me tell my disabled brother our birth certificates were in top of the one bag I had and pulled us out of line because they were not in my hand while letting many others go by that did NOT have theirs in hand either. It took me 2 seconds to get it and she wanted to also see them rather than let us get back in line like everyone else and created an ordeal there for sure was zero need for as she factually wasn't the one that truly needed to see them. Trying to guide my disabled brother through the process as it were did not need her authoritarian attitude when there just was no true cause for it. They should review the video of that and retrain her in ethics and morals when dealing with customers so rudely. If she didn't let so very many others go through without them in hand I'd not be as bothered. Thank God the staff aboard ship were so much better equipped to have pleasing joyous and free attitudes. Again some of these staff that are the first and last you will meet for sure need retraining in customer appreciation and courtesy. Those that go on vacation cruises deserve to be treated with not only basic decency and respect but smiles, welcoming, and inviting attitudes.
