We walked from our hotel down to the Canal Tour. Thank goodness we had purchased our tickets online in advance. We had perfect weather and a great boat captain and tour guide. I would have given five stars except for it was difficult to take good photographs from the middle seat. Shutterbugs need to be sitting on the rail for best photos. Great history lesson.
Enjoyable little ride in a canal boat with an informative narration provided by the tour guide. Aside from the nice view, it was interesting to hear about the history of Richmond. Well worth doing it you are a tourist visiting the city but I'd suggest booking your tickets online ahead of time (so you get the exact time slot you want). I'd also recommend popping into the Taphouse bar and restaurant next door after you finish your tour. It's a great place for a beer and bite to eat, plus your canal boat ticket stub will get you a 10% discount.
Super informative without being boring. Our captain was very entertaining. Tour was about 45 minutes and we even got to see some wildlife! Can't beat it for the price!
I thought the tour was interesting, and I got to see parts of Richmond I hadn't seen before. I thought the price was reasonable. The only issue I had was that our captain was soft-spoken, and the sound system was not enough to carry his voice. The people in my group that were closer to him could hear okay but I was the furthest, close to the front of the boat, and I couldn’t hear him if there was a lot of traffic or if the people around me were talking. He had really interesting stories about the history of Richmond so I was really trying my best to pay attention. So if someone from the company is reading this please consider adding more speakers closer to the front of the boat so everyone can hear clearly.
I really enjoyed my cruise with Riverfront Canal Cruises! Our tour guide gave us lots of information about the canal spanning multiple centuries. We even got to see a train pass overhead at one point! And I saw an otter swimming in the canal which was amazing. It was super educational at a peaceful pace. The seating on the boat is set up so it would never be overly crowded which I appreciate.
This was such a low cost fun date to enjoy! $15 a person and you can pay and reserve your time online. It stated it was 45 mins but it was only about 35 mins. I did think it went more around the James but it was still a really fun time. The guide was amazing!
So much fun!! Very relaxing and informative. Our guide told us a lot about the history of the canal and surrounding areas. I really learned a lot! It was a beautiful day and we were able to see many turtles and birds, including an osprey! If you are new to Richmond or just haven’t gotten around to it yet, I highly recommend the Riverfront Canal Cruises!! It was worth it!!
