Beautiful shops, diverse and unique. Absolutely loved the entire experience. Lots of historic buildings with their histories and stories. There was a shop where people can build their own candles and soaps. Loved that. The miners and gems shop too had lots of pretty collection. Lots of good music and good eateries to explore as well. Steeped in old californian and mexican culture
Old Town San Diego does a good job preserving all the historical Mexican sites all in one location, such a enjoyable and meaningful 1 hour walk type of place. Love La Casa De Machado Y Silvas, Racine & Laramie Cigars, and La Casa De Estusillo these 3 sites the most. La Casa De Machado Y Silvas is the very first commercial restaurant in San Diego; Racine & Laramie sold all the antique pipes (you can still smoke cigars here); and La Casa De Estusillo is the most luxury architecture in this area.
Vibrant, Historic, and Full of Character! Old Town San Diego is such a lively and charming place to explore! The area is filled with beautifully preserved historic buildings that give a real sense of San Diego’s past. There are several free museums scattered throughout, each offering a glimpse into the city’s early days—perfect for history lovers or anyone curious to learn more. The streets are always buzzing with energy, with tons of authentic Mexican restaurants, colorful roadside shops, and vendors selling handmade crafts and souvenirs. It’s a great spot to stroll around, grab delicious food, and soak in the festive atmosphere. A must-visit destination for both tourists and locals! 🌮🎶🌵
The Old Town San Diego location was a wonderful surprise. It has a variety of shops and restaurants that one can explore and one can also easily spend half a day or more just at this location. We took advantage of the trolley ride so that we could sit and relax and take a tour of San Diego and I'm going to post on the trolley ride shortly
Lovely architecture and ambience, workers are super friendly and some stores will give you history lessons! Wish there were more historical guides/plaques to talk about the history of the place, that was missed. There are souvenirs and prices for everyone, so diverse.
CLASSIC STATE PARK w/ LOVELY ARCHITECTURE! I visit Old Town very often, it's a comfort destination that is close to my heart. From the authentic eateries to shopping centers to the park, every inch of Old Town has a special treat. It's a mellow zone with activities for people of all ages. I can tell you, Old Town is a not just a tourist destination, locals hold it dear! The food, architecture, shops, and community-based culture are prevalent features. There's always something going on at the park. My recommendation? Visit Fiesta De Reyes, Casa De Maria, and El Coyote if you’re looking for a bite! Also check out the Mexican Hot Chocolate inside Fiesta De Reyes. Next, I’d take a stroll the park area and take in the sights. Finally, hit up the stores and visitor center. The staff are AWESOME. Old Town has several restrooms scattered across the general radius. Some require a token, others do not. If you're eating at a specific restaurant they can assist you with the tokens!
Depending on the time of day it mind be tricky to find parking. It was our first time to Old town. We did a lot of exploring. The historic park was open and free. Lovely to walk around and take a journey back in time. Each season brings different festivities!
