Charlie's Chicago

📍 Gay bars in Chicago

6.0

Charlie’s Chicago is a long-standing LGBTQ+ venue known for its lively events, blending themed parties and classic karaoke nights. The space often hosts beloved traditions like Monday Night Bingo, drawing crowds with its energetic drag performances and inclusive atmosphere. While some patrons praise its consistent community focus, others note shifts in service quality and layout over time.

The bar balances nostalgic charm with modern nightlife, though recent changes—like expanded bar setups—have sparked mixed reactions. Staff engagement varies, with highlights on hospitality during events like karaoke and bingo, though coat-check incidents and drink service lapses occasionally detract. A staple for many, it remains a diverse gathering spot when expectations align with its welcoming roots.

Fly Out

There is a distinct irony in stepping into a venue in 2026 that claims to be part of the community, only to find it operating like a localized nightlife chapter of 'Trump's America.' If you don't fit a highly rigid, superficial demographic, the owner makes it painfully obvious that your presence is an inconvenience. The atmosphere curated here is intensely exclusionary—completely lacking in empathy, basic accommodation, and common-sense hospitality. It feels like an environment where you are only treated with basic human decency if you check the boxes on a very narrow, outdated clipboard of what the owner considers 'normal.' Thankfully, you don't have to look far to see how it should be done. Literally just walk down the street to Hydrate Bar. The contrast is night and day. Hydrate operates with actual class and effortless inclusion. They understand that true hospitality means welcoming people as they are, and they treat their patrons with the exact respect and charm that Charlie's completely lacks. Protect your peace of mind and your wallet. Spend your dollars at venues that actually value a diverse crowd, rather than ones trying to build a wall at the front door.

Monday Night Bingo has become a new weekly staple! I come whenever I can—but I came here initially for Karaoke on Tuesday nights and it is just as good! They throw amazing parties and the house drag queens are not only stunning but amazing performers! Charlies Chicago is THEE best Charlies in the country: hands down sis!

Been coming to Charlie’s for years and the management and the staff have always been wonderful. They’re always working to make sure people have a great time but also keeping safety at the highest priority. But they also make sure anyone and everyone feels welcomed. Love this bar ❤️

Well they closed this place for what must have been close to a year for a "remodel". They put a big bar taking up most of the floor space outside of the dance floor and removed a convenient small bar from the rear. The only thing country was the sissy bartenders wearing flannel and cowboy hats. I asked for a certain type of vodka with a twist and received some kind of whiskey with a lemon piece. If you don’t know what it is ASK. I then got a beer and put my cash down with a tip and waited for the bartender to ring it up. He waited on others, took all the cash and put it in his tip tub and asked if I needed anything else and told me to back away from the bar to let others in. It’s such a shame that this place was ruined. The whole place smelled like pot later on.

Aurora and Sutton (actually Bella) are the best Monday night bingo host. Truly love them so much. It’s always a party and they’re always making sure everyone is having a great time.

I’ve been a few times and everything is always a vibe. So many different themes and music, from bingo night to karaoke night or Latino night you can expect to have a boat every time!!! A great place for getting drinks 🫶🏿

I’m sorry that I lost my ticket for the coat check, but there’s no reason why you guys should have treated me like a criminal letting me freeze outside while I’m begging y’all to let me get my jacket inside. I was NOT trying to cause any problems I was just trying to stay warm so I can go home! I’m sorry that I dropped my ticket "# 011" in the snow, it was a size small American eagle jacket, nothing fancy… THX for the hospitality, John King would be so happy. I’ll let my friends and followers know how you treat paying customers. Eliazar.😚😚
