It was something I don't know about and interesting but the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 3 is because of the ranger that worked there. I wish I knew their names. They were wonderful young people who took the time to truely visit with me a such some of the park ranger dreams. I found to remarkable and delightful!
Nice large park with views of the mountains in Mexico and the mountains in El Paso. Trails and a cultural center with history on the border and border disputes of both countries. Nice history lesson and beautiful views. Go have a walk!
Interesting and well-kept historical memorial a stone’s throw from the border and bridge to Mexico. The visitors’ center isn’t open every day so I recommend checking the hours before you go. Plenty of parking, nicely-groomed grounds, and a paved walking path with some sitting areas and shade trees.
It was a beautiful place what we could see from the outside, but unfortunately, we drove all the way there To get our stamp in our national parks pass book and it was on Sunday! A lot of history I would’ve really enjoyed learning more about it, but you’re in the meantime I looked up a bunch and we were able to at least walk around the grounds. I WOULD RECOMMEND
Update: Visited when open and it was amazing! The staff were so helpful and patient when my kiddo was asking questions. So much to learn and see. I definitely recommend as a must see spot in the city. Nice place to walk around and get a little history. Unfortunately, the visitor center was closed when we arrived. The website stated the Chamizal closes at 5pm on Tuesdays, but it didn't specify the park area itself or center.
This is basically a peace park about the diplomatic settlement of a long standing border issue over the rio grande. It has some wonderful exhibits and is well staffed. It was a very pleasant surprise in downtown el paso.
Really wonderful little museum to complement this historic urban park. I was surprised to see such great exhibits. The ranger working, Danielle, greeted me and introduced me to the exhibits. She was incredibly friendly, helpful, and approachable. I even bought some souvenirs at the gift shop. The park itself is not very large, so it's easy to walk around and see the second international boundary marker (the one closer to the road and not on front of the museum). There were not many people here which made for a peaceful evening, but there were quite a lot of high school kids walking through when I arrived at rush hour.
