Hawkeye Wildlife Management Area

Nice place to go target shooting. The 25,50, and 100 yard ranges are nice we'll maintained. Although they do need to put in an outhouse. Would also be great if they had a longer range for scoped rifles and someplace to use tannerite targets. Still a great place.

Had a good time duck hunting. A lot of birds were on the refuge with a few to be had over the public hunting area.

Beautiful day for 50 yard range practice. Not too crowded, not much wind, other shooters courteous with excellent attention to safety on the line. Only down side is many people leave all their "targets" out cluttering up the range. Please bring a big yard bag and pick up after yourself, it doesn't take long.

Well usually I'm able to do some hunting around these woods unfortunately they had road closed after road closed and up till today more closed roads. So pretty disappointing to get all the way out there and than not able to get to areas that are closed and to see no workers ..and out comes someone on a bicycle who informs Me that you could easily drive around the machines that nobody is running. Otherwise it's great big wildlife refuge with shooting ranges and lots of hunting areas. Hopefully it is not closed when you visit.

Lots of public land with dirt and or gravel roads. Would give it a five but since state won't let people camp there as they want your money at the state run campgrounds. With that said . Overall nice area for hunting and fishing. Lots of water on huge reservoir take a boat out and fish away.

A lot of places to explore, but extremely dirty and unkempt. I spent 2 hours picking up 15 bags of trash (plus other large items) along a half mile stretch. I stopped after I picked up FOUR bags of shotgun shells and couldn't see an end in site. It would be an absolutely beautiful area if it was taken care of.

I really enjoyed this area but it was hard to find on the map where I could park and walk in. We took an unmaintained road in a car to get to a location to walk around. It was worth it. It was beautiful, quiet and the area was just unreal. Loved the frogs and the bridge. Beautiful area just need a truck to make it easier lol.
