Residence Inn by Marriott Durham McPherson/Duke University Medical Center Area

As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Lifetime member, I stay in Marriott properties frequently, so I have a solid frame of reference. The positives: the location in Durham is convenient, the room was spacious with modern décor, and the bathroom was exceptionally large with a generous vanity area — definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, the stay itself was not restful. The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off throughout the night. There was no apparent way to turn it off for sleeping, and it repeatedly woke us up. The refrigerator was older and made a constant ticking/compressor noise, which only added to the disruption. Parking is also very limited — minimal surface spaces, a very small garage, and paid parking on top of that. We reported the HVAC noise and missing body wash to Tiffany and a woman who appeared to be a manager (Scott). While they were polite, no points or compensation were offered. Given the noise issues and parking limitations, we would choose other nearby hotels in Durham if future visits are required.

Best two things about this hotel are the staff and the location. Starting with Tiffani at the front desk and then everyone else we encountered in the 9 days we stayed, staff is exceedingly friendly and welcoming. The hotel is perfectly located close to food, bars, campus, and shopping without the hassle of downtown parking. With a small open lot in back of the building, a covered garage, and a large open lot, there was always space available, no matter when we arrived and it was easy to navigate. This is an older RI property and it shows in some areas. While some upgrades have been made with a well outfitted gym and brand new LG machines in the guest laundry, some of the room furniture was well used and past the point of needing to be replaced. That said, the hotel is clean, convenient, and close to so much downtown. No regrets staying here and would do it again.

This place came through for me big time, and I will always be grateful for that. I had originally booked a room at the Sonesta ES, for a one month stay with two cats. On 1/3, around 3 hours before I was due to check in, I called to confirm my arrival and was told that they no longer accept cats. After a talk with the manager, I was told that I could bring ONE cat only, which is a bit like saying I could only bring along one child. I called several other hotels and found that "pet friendly" means they accept dogs, not cats. When I called this Residence Inn, they were able to find me a same day reservation, AND had no problem accepting both of the kitties. Thank you so much, Residence Inn! Also, so far the room is comfortable, it's small but laid out very cleverly, and I'm pretty happy overall.

Great hotel in a fantastic location. Close to Duke University Medical Center. Nice spacious room. Bathroom needed more attention on cleaning and some recaulk around shower. Kitchen sink needs a good scrubbing to clean around the edges. Family was in room for 10m and started having sneezing fits. Other than that everything was good. Put ice makers on the floors for guest please.

This Hotel was very nice the service was Great we rented the Conference room for a 50th birthday celebration. The Employees was very friendly Front Desk Rep. Tiffanett (sp) was very polite friendly ready to assist and Richard the maintenance guy was amazing also. I Recommend anyone thats looking for an event space to stop by.

My job had us stay here from January 30th to February 2nd, 2026 due to a snowstorm. By far, I felt a luxurious experience having a fully furnished sweet. I had a beautiful view of downtown Durham (Trinity Park), attractions are walking distance and complimentary breakfast 🍳. Would definitely recommend Residence Inn

First the staff is nice enough, and the hotel itself is clean. Gym is fine. Its a solidly fine hotel EXCEPT The rooms are in desperate need of a remodel. Theyre clean enough but functionally awful. It's like they put a bunch of "features" in the rooms because they were trendy and did not think it through. Couches are stiff and uncomfortable. The "walk in shower" is normal shower size but missing half the glass. Meaning the shower isn't deep enough to be an actual walk in shower but still doesn't have glass or a door or curtain so you get the cold air coming into you shower as you wash and half your body has a constant stream of cold air with no way to block it. And the rain fall shower head that's not attached to the wall properly makes it worse. I was here for almost a month and had to buy my own shower rod and curtain. And because it's just a big opening for the shower entrance, you get a giant puddle of water on the bathroom floor every shower. The main lights in the room are on a timer so even if the light switch is on, if you're just trying to sit and watch a movie or something the light goes off every 15 minutes. Ridiculous. The curtains are a pain to close. The sticks attached to them are short so it's hard to reach the one behind the desk. The drawers are clunky and barely open. Just a lot of really annoying things about the rooms that ad up. They really need to remodel and get rid of those "features". Breakfast is not good. "Eggs" are dry disc's and the sausage patties are dry blackened meat discount. Finally, when you're not at capacity, don't put people in rooms right above construction. I work at night and it was not fun being woken up by a jack hammer or something of the like every morning at 9am.
