McCormick Place Guest House

I booked this place online through Expedia. It looked like a hostel shared living space. I couldn't make the first night of my booking and that is a good thing because they sent me an email for another address that I needed to go to due to the fact that the room was not yet cleaned. What accommodation sends you to a different address? Them they asked me for an additional $300 "deposit". I did not feel comfortable giving them additional money for being sent to a completely different address. They will not refund anything. I never even stayed there because I was uncomfortable with the address change. I'm taking my grievances up with Expedia and am trying to get my money back, although I read on line it is considered a legitimate business, I have serious concerns about their practices. When I tried to contact them on the phone they were rude and even hung up on me several times. Do Not Book Here!!

Do not stay here. No one there to talk to. Everything is done through email or text. They charge an outrageous deposit. $500 for locals and $300 for everyone else. According to other reviews you may or may not get that back. It's at their discretion whether you do or not. Beds are very uncomfortable. Deposit has to be sent through PayPal, Venmo or Zelle. You have to send proof of payment before you get code to get in. With all this checking in is not very convenient. BEWARE BEWARE!

Good room for the price. Area seem nice and only half hour walk from the beach. Shared bathroom but there are two bathrooms we had access to, so it wasn’t terrible.

We loved it!!! Affordable, friendly, conveniently located to several public transits that take you downtown. Even Uber or lift to downtown was $10 give or take. Stayed 3 nights went to concerts, fireworks, fine dining, and best beaches in the world in my opinion. We will most definitely come back to McCormick place guest house, this is our go to hotel for Chicago from now on.

Very shady experience. After we paid for two rooms, the hotel suddenly demanded an extra $600 via Venmo. When we questioned this suspicious request, the staff were extremely rude and refused to give us our money back. Completely unprofessional ! I will never go back there.

Scam Alert 🚨 This place is a scam. They advertise "1 room left" to pressure you into booking, then demand a so-called refundable security deposit through Venmo, Apple Cash, or PayPal only — $500 USD if you’re from Chicago, $300 USD if you’re from anywhere else. Once paid, they’ll make up fake reasons to keep your money and never refund it. When you call, a rude woman insists you pay before giving check-in details. Ignore the good reviews — they’re fake. ⚠️ Avoid this place at all costs if you don’t want to lose your money.

Fraud alert I booked 2 rooms through hotels.com. They mentioned on their page on the Hotels.com site that they would take credit cards. Once I made the booking, they sent me an email asking for a 300-500$ deposit per room to be sent to them via venmo or paypal. When I refused to pay on the basis that this is unconventional, and that they mentioned that they would take credit cards, they refused to check me in, and didn't refund my nights. Neither the hotel nor Hotels.com would solve this issue after 7+ calls to both places
