I really wish I could rate this beautiful place higher, but alas, they only allow me five stars. Kelsey, the owner of Fernweh, is an incredibly lovely human. All of her staff are incredible as well. I felt incredibly safe there. I so wish that I had another excuse to patronize the place again, but I do not, as I now live in Fort Collins. It is also located in a beautiful part of Fort Collins. And not far at all from lovely Old Town. I absolutely cannot recommend this place highly enough. Interactions with the guests was also top-notch. And Kelsey tells the guests about local events happening, such as the fun Tour De Fat that happens yearly here. She even has bikes that the guests can use to ride around town.
----- 2019 ---- We returned for a stay, this time at the Loft, a private space on the top floor. We love Fernweh! The inn is a vacation unto itself. We were so comfortable in our beautiful private space, and we felt safe letting our girls run around the house exploring. The garden is a wonderful place to relax when it is warm out - kids enjoyed the hammocks. The kitchen is beautiful and well-equipped - and we enjoyed our homemade breakfast, in addition to the daily loaf of rustic bread the staff made! Place is super convenient to grocery. Lucky's is walkable (or 3 min drive away). ------ 2017 ------ My young daughter and I stayed at the Hideaway private room for two nights. This is quite an experience for her, and me. There is a lot to explore in the house and it was fun for her. The owner is very friendly and professional. Being a hostel there is a bigger than usual rotating guest list. While we were there, all the guests were great. There was a well-equipped kitchen that we ate our takeouts at. It was nice that it was a somewhat social environment. The homey feeling of being in a Victorian house that is well-equipped, beautiful, airy, and funky was quite a treat for our vacation.
I stayed in both Hostels in Fort Collins, both great but this one was definitely the best. The house is beautiful. Modern accessories with a bohemian twist in what would seem like a 1920s house. The house is well taken care and the staff is awesome. The owners is excited to help and wants you to see the city for what it is. She goes above and beyond to give you details and show you why she loves it so much. Definitely an awesome place to regroup and meet sweet people. The bike share is convenient and you're still walking distance from old village.
This place is a gem in Fort Collins! The owner is super friendly and welcoming. The hostel dog, Hugo, is adorable and it was great to stay in a place where my dog could find a little play buddy to hang out with. The rooms are comfortable, trendy, and very reasonably priced. I stayed here with my sister and brought my dog and we enjoyed the outdoor patio, free bike rentals, and free parking. Everything was perfect! Highly recommend!
One of the best overnight stays I've ever had. You really feel a sense of community at Fernweh as soon as you walk through the door. The staff are very hospitable and approachable and there are always like-minded guests to chat with. The house itself is gorgeous and a short walk from downtown. There are also bikes that you can borrow to ride into old town. Easily the best place to stay in Fort Collins!
I stayed at Fernweh at the beginning of my road trip in March, and again in the middle of May. They welcomed me back as an old friend, it felt very genuine. It's so nice being able to cook meals in such a clean and spacious kitchen. The folks who work here are also incredibly approachable and helpful with recommendations on local activities and businesses. I have stayed at many hostels over the past few months, and I really feel that Fernweh has set the bar. I would not hesitate to stay here again, and I cannot recommend it enough!
If you haven't stayed at a hostel before, this one will spoil you! Honestly, it is closer to a bed and breakfast. The house is lovely and walkable to everything! We debated a room here or in a hotel a little further out for the same price point. I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that we stayed at the charming Fernweh. The owner, Kelsey is super helpful and makes you feel right at home. The rooms are clean, bright, and a good mix of modern comforts and a historic feeling. We booked an entire dorm for two couples and had our own bathroom and a balcony. There were plenty of towels, games, books, and even a collection of costumes and wigs for people to use! I'm sad to say we didn't get into them, but next time for sure! We brought our bikes, but you will be glad to know they have a plethora of bikes to use while you are in town with locks on each for getting around to the city. We had a great time and will definitely be back next time we are in Fort Collins.
