I booked this via booking.com which were not care of providing imprecise information about the place, to say the least. First, the rooms were very old, dirty , the sheets were dirty, with stains, and torn, with burn marks at some places. The room included NO WINDOW. There was only one chair, no hangers, no coffee machine. No space to store clothes or luggage and generally the place was smaller than any simple motel I visited in US so far. The overall experience was very different from booking.com description while still charged the outraging 171$ for a night, and of course nonrefundable. So while I was thinking I am going to a nice place, I actually fell into a trap.|I asked to change my sheets during the stay. The people who worked there answered that my room is "not in their cleaning section" so I should be looking for another cleaning person. Do not go there. For those who value a lot their accommodation quality - it will ruin your stay in NOLA.
Do not expect a five star stay at that historical place - expect a decent hotel, with one or other "discrepancies". The staff was at the check in and on the check out - verry verry friendly, already given some informations, about places to go and what is not worth to go. The room cleaness - was okay - the Hotel itself, they know, that they cannot - and i think they don´t want to match with big groups. A big advantage is a free parking space at the road, the Hotel itself, was quiet during night! Close to the Hotel - there is a starbucks coffee for breakfast . All in All - if you want to stay - as it was in former times - stay there.
I booked the Mardi Gras Inn for Mardi Gras Weekend 2026. I booked for 4 nights but ended up leaving in 2 nights because this place is so gross they should not even be in business. I paid $1600; good money for a stay that should have been clean and comfortable instead I got a roach motel! The bathroom is disgusting….bathtub was dirty looking and rust on the inside. Shower liner was full of mildew, shower rod was rusty. The towels had stains on them! The floor was so slimey and greasy I was afraid to walk on it. The sheets were stained. The icing on the cake was I saw a roach crawl across the floor!!!! Why is this place taking people’s good hard earned money and their rooms look the way they do! NO DO NOT STAY HERE! Shame on Mardi Gras Inn the rooms should meet the quality of money you charge! I just might report yall to the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU
I stayed here for 1 night. The location was very convenient and the staff were nice. I saw a couple of reviews that almost persuaded me to go elsewhere but I decided to give it a try. I like my room and It served its purpose. I liked the feel of the historic building.
Mardi Gras Inn is a zero. We were apparently given the worst room, perhaps never to come back for another visit. We were in room 105, 2/17-18. Checked out early morning 2/19/2026. Upon arrival the room smelled bad, as If someone urinated on floor. The sheets had hair throughout. No bedspread or blanket. The wall not finished, exposed concrete/ brick/ cobblestone. One yellow- orange microfiber cloth, I guess that was supposed to be a washcloth. Two hand towels and two bath towels. Bath towels had hair throughout. Bath tub had a terracotta - rust colored glistening stain in the middle center, as If someone regurgitated. No bar soap disc. Dusty. Toilet seat cover missing. Toilet tissue damp on roll. No heat! On 2/18/2026, In the evening, we went to the office to ask for a blanket. The lovely lady brought us a blanket, when they were finished in the dryer. This establishment is a zero.
We were there 3 nights and the rooms are nice. The location is fine too, near enough of the main streets to take a walk. However on the other hand, we never got room service done none of the days that we stayed, no beds done, no trash taken out, no shampoo nor soap refill done.
The Historic Mardi Gras Inn is not for everyone—but if you appreciate authenticity and character, it’s an experience worth having. Keep in mind that New Orleans is a city built on a swamp, and the inn reflects some of those realities: bugs may come up through the pipes, and at times there’s a lingering sewage smell. The property itself is not modernized, but that’s exactly where its charm lies. The colors, the architecture, and the neighborhood create a nostalgic sense of old-world living, as if you’ve been transported back to the 1800s. The location is ideal. The neighborhood has everything you could need—plenty of parking, quiet streets, and endless opportunities for photographers. It’s a welcoming, very LGBTQ-friendly community where we made friends instantly. Frenchmen Street is just a short walk away, alive with brass-band magic, artists, poets, and some of the best bars and restaurants you’ll find. And the food—absolutely unforgettable. The staff, especially Jasmine, were warm, attentive, and made us feel at home. Our neighbor Matteo was also a highlight of our stay. My only real critique: the sheets need an upgrade. There’s no excuse for stains in such a beautiful, historic setting. Overall, I loved my time here. The inn may not offer modern luxury, but it provides something far rarer—a sense of place, history, and belonging. We will return.
