HI Sacramento Hostel

Truly, all I needed was a short rest during my trip across the country. I booked a mere hour before my arrival and was greeted by Shayla, who took my information and gave me a rundown of the space and its rules. Shayla’s service throughout my stay was exceptional. The few things I did need during my stay were taken care with professionalism and polite demeanor. The building the hostel utilizes is a beautiful, historic building with lovely woodwork, unique art, and an ample cooking area. The HI is very accessible from the Amtrak station, located just 4 blocks away. As a traveler, I never felt like I had to question my safety. Had Sacramento been more of a destination rather than a stepping stone in my itinerary, I would be elated to spend multiple days here.

Stayed in room 23 with a friend while in town for a conference downtown. Lovely not-too-haunted gold rush theme and beautiful craftsmanship of the building itself. Staff was kind, clear, and politely helpful. Amenities were clean and the guests all respected the guidelines and rules. I highly recommend staying here if you would also like to follow the rules while enjoying the not-too-haunted vibes and proximity to Convention Center etc.

We stayed here for 1 night. We were taking the California Zephyr Amtrak from Sacramento to Chicago and wanted to stay close to the station. This place was great! It was convenient to just about everything. We walked everywhere we needed to. It took us less than 10 minutes to walk to the train station. There was a coffee shop about 2 doors down that gave a nice little discount for staying at the HI. The place is beautiful. We got the room with the included bathroom. We were in the lower level. There's a game room down there with pool tables and video games. The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. And most importantly....we felt safe. It was our first time in Sacramento and this place made a very nice impression. Oh...one other thing I'll mention. We arrived at the Sacramento Airport and took a bus for $2.50 which took us less than a 10 minute walk away from the HI. Just saving you readers a few bucks.

I need a place to stay in the downtown during the weekdays for my work, and booked the private rooms here for a few times. The hostel is vintage, beautiful and located in a safe block. The room is always clean and comfy. The shared areas are not crowded, and the guests here are usually quiet and respectful. The kitchen is well equipped but I hope there are filtered water pitchers.

Love the place - have stayed multiple times. However - was a little bit discomfited, and blindsided, by a 'new policy' on checked bags. (Jan. 2026) HI Sac will now only hold my bag until 6 ? That definitely put a crimp in the day - hauling a bag around to see the sites in Old Sac? And didn't coincide with fairly routine travel plans. (I have a routine Amtrak connection later in the evening - Coastal Starlight - as do a lot of others) Appreciate that there probably needs to be some 'reasonable' limitations. But 6pm isn't providing the service that I use to enjoy.

The most amazing hostel you will ever experience. Historic mansion in the heart of Sacramento. I adore the selection of decorum. Everything is classy about this even banning alcohol consumption and smoking on the property allows it to remain free of Riff Raff. I will never forget my one night here. On site kitchen, laundry and games room. The paid parking on site is a bonus. The area has street Parking free from 10pm to 6 am.
