This trip was the first time traveling with our dogs. The hotel was very dog friendly and we could walk to the dog beach in 3 minutes. The rooms were dated and did not look like the photos on the website, but may be because we had pet friendly rooms. I thought it would be more boutique than it was. However, the room rate was super cheap and we were downstairs and had access from our room to a fenced in area for dogs to potty. Super convenient! But, lazy dog owners did not pick up their dogs mess. Don't be those people! There are trash cans, poop bags, and scoopers to clean up your pets mess. They also have an outdoor dog washing area to clean up your pets after the beach. The employees were friendly and helpful. The restaurant/food truck at the hotel was really good! I think it's called Benedict's.
this place is a little confusing. i was excited to find an affordable dog friendly hotel but everything comes at a price unfortunately. on top of your $150 deposit they charge a fee for your animal. it’s advertised as pet friendly but FOR A PRICE. employees do not inform you about the extra charges until you ask for them so beware. this place isn’t as exciting as i expected. i should be charging the hotel for the mold that was behind and on our sink but no one wants to talk about that, right? this place isn’t the gem i thought it was. probably won’t be back.
A perfectly adequate hotel. You really can’t beat the location in Ocean Beach. The room was fine. The room I had was a non-pet-friendly room upstairs. The room featured a balcony with a nice view and a high top table and chairs. The towels were reminiscent of the Braidwood Inn from the Planes, Trains, and Automobiles movie. That said, I was perfectly comfortable for three nights and appreciated the economical stay in a great area. The room TV didn’t work, but I wasn’t in Ocean Beach to watch TV. The ceiling fan also was not well secured to the ceiling and shook like no other when turned on. I would still consider staying again when visiting the wonderful Ocean Beach.
This place is good if you are traveling with dogs. The hotel was okay for a quick night’s rest, but I’m not sure I would stay for more than one night. The balcony was a nice feature, but the room itself felt very outdated. The proximity to the beach was convenient, although it’s a dog beach, so there are plenty of off-leash dogs. There’s also quite a bit of homelessness on the beach and around the hotel. When I was leaving around 6:00 am, there were homeless individuals underneath the outside stairwell just a few steps from my truck, which made me feel uneasy. The hotel charges a $15 parking fee, so you would expect the area to be gated or at least more secure, but it isn’t. I usually travel solo with my son, and I personally wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone traveling alone with small kids. The incidental fee is $150. On the positive side, the room did have a coffee machine, microwave, and small fridge. The TV was nice, though not a smart TV. The beds were comfortable. They provide shower towels, but no shampoo or body wash. Overall, I’m not sure I would stay here again.
This property is a great location for dog beach access as well as food and shopping. You can walk pretty much anywhere you need and get what you want. We have stayed here multiple times with our fur babies. The only thing I wish they would do is update the rooms a little bit and definitely upgrade the bathroom linens. They also have a nice little dog washing station free of use, which certainly helps out. We will be back!
Walk around the corner and you're on Dog Beach ⛱️ This place was built decades ago, quite dank. Despite the age they keep the rooms well maintained and clean. Employees are very helpful and polite. Rates are high for the building, but not for the location. We used to stay down at the marina, twice the price and fancy. But since our first time staying here a decade ago this is the only place we stay. We bring our furry friends down every year for their birthdays. Walking distance to many eateries and 15 minute drive to everywhere else you may need to go. They have such a blast. The Aussie gets so excited seeing 400 of his closest friends. Hint, wait until after Labor day. Less crowds, weather is still perfect and prices come down a tad.
The rooms are super run down and dirty. We stayed for 3 nights since it was nonrefundable. We saw the room and immediately asked for a refund but it was nonrefundable so we were forced to stay. When I called to book the room, I was comparing prices with other hotels and they didnt mention that it was an additional $15 per night per car for parking so that was an unexpected additional fee when we got there. The floors are extremely dirty. The sheets, blankets, and towels are really cheap and borderline dirty. The furniture is all beat up. We saw cockroaches in our room while we were staying there which grossed me out so bad for the rest of the stay, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Its super pricey for the quality of rooms you are getting. The only thing they have going for them is the view of the beach. I mentioned all these issues to the manager as we were checking out and she just said "they would look into it." We stayed here a couple years ago when they had just remodeled and loved it but clearly they haven't been keeping up any maintenance or anything. That will definitely be our last stay here unless some major changes happen.
