This is an amazing hotel! I've come here a couple times as a solo traveler and felt safe each time. The neighborhood is cute and super fun to explore. The service is also great and made my stay more enjoyable. The rooms were also very clean and well-maintained. The check-in process was easy and staff even gave me some of their recommendations for what to do in San Diego. The Pearl Hotel was my first ever stay as a solo traveler and I 1000% recommend to anyone who is visiting San Diego!
We LOVE staying at the Pearl! Aside from a great vintage atmosphere, cozy rooms, and the amazing design of the hotel— the food, drinks, and service this trip were phenomenal! Yesterday evening, Meg provided excellent service during the "Golden Hour" at Ponyboy. We felt extremely at ease and comfortable our entire stay and are already planning our next trip!
Campy retro vibes, clean rooms, however the breakfast is still showing up as free on Google maps and yet it does not exist. Also they just changed their restaurant schedule to be closed Sun and M. Difficult to sleep before the restaurant closes - it's a very small hotel and the restaurant/bar can get really vibey, which is cool but not conducive if you need to get to bed early for the first flight out the next day. The bathroom soaps/shampoos are quite nice, as are the towels and robes. Mini splits are great for controlling your individual temperature in the room. Kenneth at the check in desk was really a pleasure to talk to.
The Pearl was amazing!!! After a not so good day dealing with travel delays and luggage issues my friend and I needed to get a hotel near the airport. This cute boutique hotel was the perfect place to be and they made us feel at home! Tawny was amazing and Ian at the front desk was great!! If we are ever in San Diego again this will be a permanent stop. Whether it’s to stay, eat at the restaurant, get a drink at the bar, or pick up a slice of grasshopper pie! Thank you again for the hospitality!
As a travel advisor, I frequently stay in various hotels, but my experience at The Pearl was disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it to clients. The first night began poorly when I visited Ponyboy for dinner and was sat in the lounge for happy hour. I was given a menu to write down my order, but no one returned. After 35 minutes, I noticed staff standing around and asked to order food. By then, happy hour was over, so I ordered a full dinner. They apologized for forgetting me and offered a free bottle of water. Although the server was kind, it was unusual not to be checked on for so long.||||The next day, I texted the provided number to request more towels, as there was no housekeeping service. (I couldn’t find any online mention of this, and for the price, it seemed like housekeeping should be included.) I’ve never stayed in a hotel without daily housekeeping, only in house rentals. I wasn’t too bothered, but with food containers and no towels, my room became unpleasant. After texting, they said towels would arrive soon, but after another text, I asked to pick them up since I wanted to shower. There was no response, so I showered and heard a knock at the door, using a hand towel to dry off. The next morning, I asked the front desk for more towels since they hadn’t been delivered the night before. An hour and five minutes later, I texted again, and it took even longer for them to arrive. I finally received towels 18 hours after my initial request.||||Another issue was the room design. The nightstand was attached to the wall, allowing me to hear my neighbor’s phone vibrate all night, disrupting my sleep. Despite using a noisemaker, it didn’t drown out the vibrations. I slept terribly the 2 nights they were next to me. ||||I read other reviews that talked about breakfast being included. It’s not, but they didn’t provide me breakfast on my last morning I think to make up for the towel situation. ||||Location wasn’t as ideal as I hoped since I didn’t have a car. I walked to a workout class and a smoothie shop and to the grocery, but it’s more a residential area and not much around. ||||Just not the overall experience I had hoped for and I wouldn’t return.
Quirky hotel in fun area. Note this is not a normal hotel. May be good or bad depending on your situation. It’s a small hotel with restaurant and pool, both of which are also small. Check in is all but part of the small restaurant and you walk through the narrow bar area to get to your room. It’s modeled after an old roadside lodge. The rooms were clean and functional. The hotel can be loud as there is always a movie, trivia night, etc. until 10 pm. After that, it was very quiet. The location is very convenient to the pier and several restaurants. I enjoyed the stay but it’s probably not for everyone. It’s a non traditional hotel but very unique and fun.
We thought this would be like the Ace, which we love. Nope. Hotel was SO loud even in our upcharged room (they put us next to an industrial closet with the pool pump going 24/7, which we had to ask them to turn off even after 1 am - pool closes at 8 so this was pure laziness on their part). Did not inform us of multiple private events which meant the kitchen and bar were fully closed during our entire stay. All communication is via text with the front desk, so replies are often weird or delayed. There was also a roach in our room (ew) and we were too grossed out by the patio to even use it (waste of $$ - dust, bugs, and cobwebs galore).
